I can't find anything applicable about gravy, but the way I make it without roasting meat first is to slice some onion, spread it on a baking tray and pop in the oven near the top, then leave in there until it starts blackening. Meanwhile, make a roux with a little bit of butter and about tbsp of flour and 1 tsp of mustard power. Add about 1 pt of stock, then lob the onions in.
Now, at this stage I would add a splash of Worcester sauce and another of dark soya sauce.... But as Shirl will not be able to do that, I guess that's where we'd have to stop adding stuff and serve.0 -
thanks for testing that one sandra
sounds like it wasn't as yummy for you as potty's mum and dad:(, but everyone is very different I think! I'm really pleased you gave it a whirl, thank you

Looks yummy! There is only 3 things (olives, celery and ginger) I don't like on the list, so I should be able to test most things, along the way. Probably ingredients I can easily miss out or substitute anyway.
I've gone through the list and they are all vegan. Just wanted to check incase the balsamic vinegar wasn't and I wasn't sure what had been added. (Although malt and spirit vinegars are generally animal free, the production of wine, cider and sherry vinegars may involve the use of a fining agent of animal origin). I see you have changed to asda from tesco now. I guess its easier to stick to one shop for these plans, can't remember why we looked at tesco before.

Erm, I can give you a sketchy probable one, but I'd need everyone to note that this isn't finalised one else I'll worry that I've misled you all
the following meals are included twice
onion tarte tatin
vegan risi e bisi with walnuts
tomato lentil olive pie
butternut squash risotto
kidney and haricot bean curry
morrocan rice
homemade pizza
sweetcorn fritters
shepherdess pie
panzanella
saag aloo
chilli
pasta with sundried tomatoes and olives
veggie burgers with HM wedges
HTH
Looks yummy!
I had some vegan risi e bisi cold with my salad at lunchtime and I liked it better that way! So I guess if anyone finds it too much, they could keep some for rice salad snack!
I see that there was no yeast extract on the shopping list, we will need that for the vegan savoury bites and to provide some B12!
I am going out now, will post the nut butter recipe when I get back. My mum tried some today and liked it, will give some to BIL now, as he probably doesn't get enough selium or omega 3's.
The mung bean savoury bites definately need more chilli and or garlic, as they don't taste as savoury as the chickpea version which I prefer. Still like the mung bean ones, just need to adjust the recipe, another test drive I think.
By the way (i've been putting off mentioning this) but the veggie plans won't have any vitamin D, as there is no fortified products like soya milk or soya margarine, eggs or oily fish. It didn't ought to be classed as a vitamin, as you produce it from the action of the sun on your skin and is available in so few foods. You will have to suggest people get out in the sun for 15 minutes a day (hands and face only is ok). (though not sure if this is possible yet, as the sun has to be a certain degree in the sky or something and its not available all year in the UK). Don't want us to worry about nutrition again, so perhaps a note could be added to the planner. At least its available free in the summer. Aparently a lot of people are definient in the UK.
Anyway, must go out, off to a jumble sale!!

does anyone have the ingredients or willingness to test run a planner 2/3 snack recipe?
swede and onion cloddies
1 very small onion 65g chopped very finely or grated
100g swede chopped very finely or grated
200g SR flour
salt and pepper
1/2 tspn garam masala
40ml oil to mix (plus 15ml to fry them in)
a little mustard powder/chilli garlic if you feel it'd benefit from it
a few spoons of water (to make a stiffish dropping consistency)
mix together to form a dropping consistency.
fry tablespoon sized splats
I think you get a batch of 8-10 and if it goes pear shaped you've wasted only 22p:money:
