Chilli mince on-due to logistical problems we have made two and a third portions.

Its looking awesome at the mo and I cant wait to eat it. I may go mad and post more piccies!!!:D

Mr arty and myself have just had a long conversation about how satisfying it is to cook something from almost no ingredients and have a nommy meal. I think we have a convert!:T:T

Hey, I saw the link about the bread salad, it was deeelicious, I used chopped onion, tomato, cucumber, cubed bread, oil, balsamic, salt, pepper, tuna and a boiled egg. I recognise that is worth more than the cost of the bread I was using up but it was worth it, I would never have thought of it! Thanks :)

Arty, I think you are doing a great job, considering the somewhat confusing circumstances of sharing a house and what that means with space etc... I wouldn't worry if occasionally you have to modify thing to keep yourself sane, I am sure noone minds.

    YES MUM!!

Thanks for the recipe. I have all the ingredients (assuming white basmatic rice is ok to use) apart from balsamic vinegar. Do you think this is essential? I have red wine, cider and malt vinegar, do you think I can substitute any of these?

Looking forward to finding out what the panzanella recipe is, as we always have lots of bread middles to use up or does it have to be crusts for this recipe. My hubby eats the crusts and leaves the middles for me to use for sandwiches and bread puddings etc. This is for shop bought bread, don't know what will happen when I ever get round to using that bread flour I bought!

Weezl, you are entitled to a huge fat "I told you so" ! Spanish omelette was just nowhere near enough for me, I'm afraid. Nice taste, just not enough of it :o

Chilli was fine tonight. I left out the garam masala and upped the chilli powder a bit and had no problems with sweetness.
100g of rice each would be way too much for us. Usually we have about 125g between us, so I compromised and did 150g. We just about managed to eat it all, but are very full now. I think we'll be unlikely to need any snacks this evening.

Hi all, well the chilli went down well, OH said "lovely, is there any more?" DS1 + 2 were happy because of the kidney beans. I thought it was extra nice with lots of chillies. I also only did about 50g of rice as 100g is way too much for us.

    Sweetness.

Okay in the end i didn't use vinegar or stock cubes. Instead i added more chilli powder and freshly chopped chillies which i may say turned out rather nice. Me and OH love hot foods, and tend to eat green chillies whole. Also had some ahem cheese to it as the boys are used to having it :o, slinks away before being told off ........

:T Good boy, Mr Arty !

You gonna let him have his afters now, Arty ? :A

Re the chili, it's a right eye-opener for me when I see other people's portion sizes - we do need 100g rice each, but I found that a 4-people batch of chili stretched to 6 servings for us ! Not that we couldn't have managed bigger servings - just that we are used to stretching it that bit further.

So far, I have not found a serving that was too large for me, and only one (tonight's ) that was insufficient - so the plan is definitely working for me :j
