hmm could be the onions, i normally only use 1 large onion.
Don't think its the garam masala as i normally have that in too.

Think i might put in a stock cube to make it more savoury.

shanks thought it was sweet too :( how about adding a little bit of vinegar? The acidity might offset the sweetness?

I didn't - but then I doubled the amount of chilli powder. Might be worth try for those who like it hot. Now I think about it, though, I didn't find it nearly as hot as expected, and as sweetness is recommended for cooling overly hot dishes, that might explain it.

Arty - I am certainly not angry :) A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, and making bread a loaf at a time can be a bit overwhelming at first. Don't give up though, will you ? Have you tried the Paul Merrett bread yet ? It might work for you better than the no-knead - and I prefer its texture myself, but have been persevering with the no-knead as DD prefers that one.

Incidentally, the no-knead takes 25 minutes on 190 C in a fan oven. So it looks like it's 25 min regardless, just slightly adjust the temperature downwards for fan.

Oh, and congratulations on your haircut and good luck with the interview :D

Frankie, when it comes to juggling it's never going to be easy. I did work/family/study thing in my early twenties, and would be very wary of going for it again. There's only so much that can be crammed into 24 hours - but I guess that the answer is that if you want something badly enough, you'll find a way to do it :) And another thing that I find myself telling students a lot this time of year (exams and dissertation approaching !) - sometimes "It will do" will do just fine. It's better to have your best stab at something than to give up because perfection seems unattainble.

Oh, and I meant to add - salt crust (as in PM recipe) on no-knead bread does not work well at all. Don't try this at home, kids !

Spanish omelette for me tonight. Will try to sell the idea to DD, but it's far more likely that she'll opt for a plain omelette and have her veg on the side instead.....

I have found the Paul Merrett bread better than the no-knead.
It's not perfect but a nicer texture and taste. I think that will be the recipe that I'm going to work on to perfect.

Allegra Thanks for those words of wisdom. :)

    Arty :(

    Tsk tsk.

    What can I say?

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:not really! poor you I'm sorry the bread hasn't been working.

Erm, is there a chance you could test something for the planner 3 that uses up crusty bread and ends of loaf? It's an italian dish called panzanella.

Don't worry if you don't fancy it or feel you would be throwing good money after bad, so to speak :)

Allegra, spanish omelette is the lowest calorie evening meal. As you've been losing weight, can I be gently old mother hen ish and say to have a big piece of cake for pudding or some fruit scones? The savoury scones with cheese in are pretty calorific :)

Oh, I guess I could force something down. If I had to. For you.

    Hehe :D

You really needn't worry yourself about my weight loss though, Weezl. As I said before, I always felt the food sufficient, and my frame really can take a fair bit of fluctuation either way. So I'm good, honest :)
