The crusty rolls will become breadcrumbs tomorrow. I picked out the soft middles out of the donuts and mixed with oat milk, garam masala and raisins and baked as a kind of bread pudding for one and my dad enjoyed it.

[QUOTE\] Looking forward to the lasagne recipe from howlin, sounds like something we would definitely eat. I started making my own lasagne after someone posted on here. I'm sure on its own it might not be the best pasta in the world, but in lasagne, no one has noticed it :-).[/QUOTE]

Will hopefully be making this tomorrow if I can get Joe to have an afternoon nap. Will most likely be using an egg or two in the pancakes and a bit of melted butter so there will be possibility to frugalise further by losing the eggs and replacing the butter with oil.

That was me ! I'm so glad someone had a go - I got shouted down (in a nice way, of course) when I said Shirl should have a go at making her own, so I'm pleased someone has benefited :j

(BTW, I timed myself last time I made lasagne - recipe for the sauce off Weezl's blog - and it took 45 mins all told plus cooking time - less time than some of Shirl's and Kitty's recipes).

And I do the thing with bamboo skewers to keep our cat out of the vegetable patch. Doesn't always work, though - she's a big cat, but can still wedge herself in the gaps when she really wants to !

I have to try the peashoot thing before it's too late !

Afraid coriander tends to do that ! The only thing I've found so far that works to an extent is to sow them very thickly - packets of seeds you buy for sowing just do not give enough seeds to sow them thickly enough, buy them from an Asian supermarket if you can and sow loads; cut as soon as they start forming leaves; and keep in the shade.

And still they go to seed really quickly, but at least you should have had plenty of leaves cut by then. Then as soon as they start going to seed, sow another lot, save seeds from the first lot and sow again. They are quite labour intensive in comparison to other herbs - I'm afraid I have rather fallen behind with mine, am just left with a lot that's gone to seed...

In the shade! That is unexpected being an Indian herb, I thought it loved hot, dry conditions

I have a big jar of coriander seed (250g) that I got from one of those cheapy warehouse type places. I'll try sowing those thickly, in the shade, and see what happens

If it doesn't really grow well, I'll stick with what I have been doing and get a big bunch from the greengrocer and chop it and freeze it

I'm off to buy some bamboo skewers, brilliant idea. Anything to keep the sodding street cats out of my garden

    .

Lesley: did you try the planting of the dried peas? I have had huge success with them, almost 100% germination and they grow strongly and quickly and are nom raw, going to try them in stir fry and steamed hopefully this week. I suspect they might be stuffed full of micro nutrients too. The variety I grew ( from big bag of dried peas from the supermarket), tend to grow a lot of tendrils which aren't a nice mouth feel raw, but are pretty easy to just nip off when picking or if you're passing.

    .
yes I did and had lots of tasty shoots that I used in salads. I need to get some more in really as those ones have gone over now

I'll put some in tom, think I'll put these in the garden rather than a box, easier to keep them watered

Nice to catch you on skype last night. I couldn't believe you had chatted for so long.

I missed the important parts of your discussions but gather you discussed the worthiness of a month 2 plan for Shirl.

My perception of shirl is that she is not used to cooking. You have shown her a month one but what happens next. Yes, she will have learned to cook the things in the plan, have been shown how to plan her batch cooking but I still feel she is a long way from going it alone. A month 2 plan would mean that she could continue for many months alternating between month 1 and month 2 (January month 1, February month 2 for example). I think it is important that month 2 uses the same ingredients as then it won't be a massive change. I believe having two months worth of menu plans and advice affords shirley the time to put her new found confidence, cooking skills and grasp of the nutritional benefits to work devising some meals of her own.
