    hi all
am writing up the nutrition stuff in a simple way to help Shirl's believe in the healthiness of what is offered.

In the spreadsheet, I have put on the top

    protein 10-35%
    fat 20-35%
sat fat - up to 7%
    carb 45-65%

as a way of reminding me what the rec amounts were. Now I can't flippin' find where I got that from. It was a govt site of some kind, and I want to quote it. I have searched for ages, and have searched through the threads, and simply can't find it.

    anyone got any ideas?

I honestly do not know where the impression comes from - as I've been around pretty much from the start, I know it's anything but, and it took me a while to twig that people were not seeing this !

I guess it's just ignorance (and I do not mean that in a bad way). I guess I mean that many of the people with Old Style background meal plan on a regular basis, and will probably figure that this, posh website aside, is no different to them sitting down with a pen and writing pad and knocking up a month's worth of meal ideas in advance. And those who do not meal plan might think it even easier than that, simply because never having tried, they do not quite realise the challenges of producing somethin nommy from a box of marrowfats, packet of ready brek and some bacon trimmings.

So when they look at the planner all they will see is lard and lack of five pieces of fresh fruit each day. Add in all the nutritional info and they might start seeing it a bit more clearly !

I too have been around for quite along time...
Well for all of phase 2... and phase 1 for that fact....
And I was pretty much a lurker for the second half of the 50p days

    :o
I still cant see it either Allegra :(
I will keep watching, to see if I am missing something
am doing Tomato Cobbler from The Big Red Book Of Tomatoes tonight, with broccoli and carrots. If it was peas instead of broccoli, it would be 50p a head.

will let you know if it is nommy or not

so much sport/telly, so little time!

Grand Prix, Footie, Wimbledon, and Dr Who as well

good job I was painting the village hall earlier otherwise my bottom would be completely square by now

might do some weeding later on when it's cool, much too hot at the moment

rocket is sprouting like mad and is an absolute forest, having a salad of rocket and lettuce most days now, and giving away loads. Got loads of radish and mizuna coming on, 10 small basil plants have gone in the garden from pots, and I am trying again with the coriander. The first lot were puny and went straight to seed

had basil (from the garden) pesto with pasta last night - your recipe Weezl, it was very nommy

Lesley... I would love to live in your garden/neighbourhood :T:T:T:T
    Sounds Glourious :o:D:p

My perception of shirl is that she is not used to cooking. You have shown her a month one but what happens next. Yes, she will have learned to cook the things in the plan, have been shown how to plan her batch cooking but I still feel she is a long way from going it alone. A month 2 plan would mean that she could continue for many months alternating between month 1 and month 2 (January month 1, February month 2 for example). I think it is important that month 2 uses the same ingredients as then it won't be a massive change. I believe having two months worth of menu plans and advice affords shirley the time to put her new found confidence, cooking skills and grasp of the nutritional benefits to work devising some meals of her own.
    exactly the same ingredients spotdogkez?

I think that might save 5 ish hrs, so I'd say 105 for that one which is 6-7 elapsed weeks if I am able to sustain a part-time week and if others are also willing to do what they did before (tho hopefully I would be less trouble to Lesley now we have an understanding of each others' maths brains :))

BTW, I think people are mostly answering as an either/or (either nutrition OR month2) but it could be both or none.

Also I'm just wondering that the site will look odd if there is 2 months for Shirl and one for Kitty?

So that's another 105-110 hrs for kitty month 2.

Would love any more opinions before deciding :D

Also any opinions on where the 'thrown together quickly for fun' impression comes from?

What do you think of Shirly month two weezl? Are you dreading it or thinking it could be helpful? I am not sure it would be and would prefer a mix and match type system and maybe we could progress to month 2 if we have feedback stating that it would be needed. *

Personally I think the nutritional aspect much more important

*any ideas how we could do market research about the planner ?(more than we have done)

I was holding off from posting my opinion until others had said, but I'm wondering if a few of you are feeling inhibited by not knowing what I feel and thereby 'getting it wrong' for me.

I think the other issue is that if it is a choice between protecting weezl who we know and helping shirley who we think is out there, but we don't really know, I suspect you would pick me. Because of friendship, and it is a very natural thing to do.

But there is one me and potentially thousands of shirleys, so I feel we should make the decision on the basis of doing 'the greatest good for the greatest number'.

Is anyone holding back because I haven't given my view?

I wouldnt say I am holding back on giving my view but I am most certainly taking your time and effort into consideration-and I dont think it is worth it at the moment:o

a couple of other questions: If we did publish months 2 for both kitty and shirley, I personally feel we have lost an incentive to fully ever learn to fish (meal plan nutritionally). This may be great, since if it takes me with all my background info 4 full-time weeks, then is it faesible to expect shirl to get there?

NB By this I don't mean that folk on a more normal budget can't do this.

I think if you gave me the same task on a more normal but still frugal £200-250 pcm I think It'd be doable in a couple of evenings plus publishing time.

    Am I making any sense?

also (embarrassed to admit this:o:o:o) If shirley has 4 complete months to chose from, I wonder if I have helped her to challenge her original non-negotiables (which I did actually want to do :))

Would it be possible for you to explain this a bit more?
