Weezl and friends Phase 2 -giving it a whirl for Shirl! Testing meal plan for a month

If you really want to persuade people to drop these prejudices, and if that is a specific goal of this project (rather than just an ideological wish/hope on the sidelines), then surely your next step (after rolling out the vegan/veggie plan that is near completion) is to present what you truly believe these people should be eating, at whatever price point that works out to be. Ignore their so-called non-negotiables, and show them the way. The Weezl Way.
I like that ! A Shirl month, a Kitty month, and a Weezl month !
Good to see you back, Avocet.0 -
a very timely delurk Avocet
Lovely to see you
What do people think of that? A more hardcore month. Healthy, but Not like they say.
Would it weaken the faith in the other 2?

I noticed in our meeting and just now in allegras comment that some of you might (very kindly) worry about my time with fergie, kessie and DH.
So I thought I'd say how I see it:
here are my priorities:
Kessie
Fergie
DH
my good friends and family if they need me
Kitty/shirley
Kessie top due to littlest-ness atm.
sometimes I think every parent MUST do something to maintain a little of their pre-parent self. If they don't the child would suffer anyway.
For me, because I am quite cerebral, is I MUST have a head challenge sometimes, so sometimes for a chunk of a few hrs a week it might look like this
Shirl/kitty
Kessie
Fergie
DH
etc etc.
If I was a different sort of person (like some of my friends) it looks like this:
Singing in my band once a week
Baby
baby
partner
or like this:
going to town and buying perfume, knickers and things that still make me feel like a girl
Baby
baby
DH
etc
Does this make sense?

Weezl, now I'm intrigued. A more hardcore month - sounds good. Do you have a sample meal/menu you could share with us?Me, DH, DS10 and DS60
-
Does this make sense?
Totally. I can stop clucking at you now
And I don't think that the hardcore month would weaken health in the other two at all. In fact, now Avocet planted the seed of the idea, I almost feel it a necessity, specially as we're mentioning that you used to live on 50p a day - lots of Shirleys might want to try whatever the equivalent on today's prices is !
What have we decided on the "emergency week", btw - getting enoguh calories in and all other considerations be damned, for people with their backs against the wall ?0 -

Something like those in the 50p challenge, perhaps ?0 -
spotdogkez, I couldn't tell you yet in exact meals and days (would take a lot of building) but I can say a bit more about what would 'go' (in terms of health rules and amounts) from the existing plans (and why) if that would help?

the main thing I would do differently in the hardcore month is lose the '5 a day but ideally more' thingie (since in my book this was always a concession).
Doubtless your 'aaaargh it's horribly unhealthy!' hackles will rise.
Hear me out tho.
what is a fruit or a veg to your body in nutritional terms?
some fructose (fruit sugar) for energy, some fibre for colon cleaning stools and vitamins and minerals.
So, energy, fibre and vitamins.
The majority of vits contained in fruit and veg are the watersloluble ones. If you don't use or need their vits that day you wee them out. Simple as that. Your body does not think 'I have enough vit C for today, but I shall secrete some away in my spleen for later in the month' nope, it pops it all in your wee.
follow my logic then: if for health reasons we want shirl to have enough vits/minerals, but need her not to worsen her horrid financial situation, how much fruit and veg do we want her to eat?
You can post your own answer, but here's mine: enough to provide 105-110% of her daily vitamin need and no more. (because her finances are a huge priority to me).
And this, in a controversial nutshell, is why in my weezl month, I would not dance to the tune of the '5 a day but preferably more'.
Errrrm, is anyone still there or have you all gone off in an appalled huff??!

Well, that's what five a day is about, really, isn't it ? The initiative is there in order to increase the chances of an average family achieving 100% RDA of their essential vitamins and minerals, because majority of people will not ever sit down and work out their RDAs and how to get them. If someone else has done this for them, where's the problem ?0 -

(devil's advocate!)
if the govt says 5 a day and some woman in Wales with 2 babies and no nutrition degree says 1-2....
reckon they'll go with the 5 a day campaign.
Specially since some kind souls have since perpetuated the erroneous (in my view) add on that '5 a day' (but ideally fresh really and really ideally 9 portions if you're middle class.)
