Do you mean the php gobbledygook (sorry ! It is so to me !) or something else, Weezl ?
no it was a bit after that where she said that it might be arranged into dinners, lunches and so on and she described a click through pattern.

It was all in real english :)

I can't remember that one (shame on me, lol). I know where the php bit is though - p.131 - so I'll look in the vicinity to see if I can find it :)

Hope I didn't offend you weezl, I didn't mean to be too blunt or anything, maybe I didn't explain it well :o Don't know if I can explain better though so take it I think you are wonderful :D

50p thread...I think though inspiring it seemed something time consuming and maybe extreme if thats the right word and not something I had the skills to do. I remember the pictures of you jointing the pig etc, its skills we have lost and all become very squeemish about. The more I think about it though I think you need to do it to challenge how awfully emotive food has become. I wonder if a personal blog of living on 50p a day on the site with daily menus would be less scary to begin with just to get people thinking?

Edited to add I suppose your last 50p thread was a blog so ignore me!

lesley, if you have a spare few mins when putting off bathroom cleaning ;) would you google 'nutmeg' nutritional software and have a little read and see if you think it adds benefit to our project?

nope, not offended at all :)

time consuming, ie didn't fit in with your life and the hard work you have to do, and extreme, ie would have made you and your loved ones seem quite different from your friends and therefore seem odd?

    These are very valid concerns.

In actual fact, I have a great deal more time for those non-negotiables than some I've heard :).

I have sometimes had pangs for not putting together the planner for the people who ticked 'I simply don't have the time to cook from scratch', because we focussed on the majority.

But actually I wonder if a lot of people quickly ticked the trendy options. And who'd dare admit on MSE old-style that they didn't want to cook from scratch?! :rotfl:

I sometimes wish I had built the hardcore one, the quick one with minimal cooking, and the one that my kids don't feel weird about having friends for tea, (although I hope the shirley planner is this too)

Ok, I've taken some time to think about a weezl month. I completely see your points regarding fruit etc and how and why they could be healthily substituted. I personally would be willing to adapt my views to your viewpoint.

Regarding the 'shirls', to my mind (and I know there are lots of people who fall between these) generally I feel there are two types. Both have a reason for needing to reduce their food bills but one who has been feeding her family with fruit and would expect to continue along those lines and the other who (and I know plenty like this) whose kids live off burgers and chips and consider the meal healthy if they have a side order of mushy peas. Therefore following any of your plans will be a great advantage to their health whether they subscribe to the 'five a day' or not.

I lurked on your 50p thread, didn't follow along, but did try some of your recipes - the saag aloo for example which was delicious, so I know you are able to deliver an equally appealing plan at a lower price point.

  • I LOVE the sound of the Weezl month!! I reckon I could learn so much from it and so hopefully Shirley's would too. I say go for it if you consider it a worthwhile use of your time

    DH is concerned.

He thinks we are in the majority in being willing to think 'ah but what is the point of the 5 a day? If it is to deliver enough vits, and we can do this with fewer, then why not?'

He thinks most people will just think:

    5 a day good

    9 a day excellent

    2 a day bad.

    I think I'm with you! will a fruit-giving shirl be willing to do a 50p month if there's 2 a day?
