I finally got round to making the bread. As I only have 2 loaf pans, I made rolls with one lot and added raisins and garam masala to another to make a sweet loaf and baked in a cake tin. I also did donuts and fried half and baked half. Unfortunately I put the timer on for the 25 mins and forgot the bread rolls and donuts would need taking out earlier and burnt the donuts and made extremly crusty rolls. I also fried the donuts at a too high a temp and they was also a bit burnt.
But I did like the bread and can't tell there is marmite in it. It tasted of yeast when warm, but not now its cold, don't know if this is normal. The fruit loaf is also nice.
The crusty rolls will become breadcrumbs tomorrow. I picked out the soft middles out of the donuts and mixed with oat milk, garam masala and raisins and baked as a kind of bread pudding for one and my dad enjoyed it.

Yeah, my DD :) She "got it" to the point of being satisfied by it eventually though.

I thought that was more like it after last week's offering - a totally nonsensical romp with cracking backing music and a fez.

And I did suffer from leaky eyes a couple of times.

I expect we'll be seeing a fair bit of River Song in the next series....

Maybe I will re-watch it again tomorrow with mr arty...i think I *got* it but didnt really care..which is sad as normally I am very emotionally invested.

Trying to be cryptic so doesn't give anything away.

    All in all, meh

How did the chemistry HW go Allegra?

Re what to do next, I basically agree with Allegra. Once Kitty’s plan is live, I think the most value will be gained by putting a nutritional box on each separate recipe, as this would reassure that the nutrition has been considered & calculated. And also, would be a tool for anyone who feels ready to fish & do their own plan.

In my opinion, a second plan for Shirl would have merit, as it would give her somewhere to go after month one if she was still not confident going off plan & had totally accepted the first month’s validity.

However, given the aim to teach her to fish, rather than provide the fish, and the time it would involve to do a further full month’s plan, I think that there would be more value in providing more fishing tools.

For example, more nutritional information such as a portion of fruit =, a portion of veg =, but remember you can count one glass of fruit juice, and also x of dried, a portion of pulses, … and canned and/or frozen are just as good, if not better, because … The RDAs for iron, calcium etc. are … And the additional recipes (including the gorgeous red pepper tart), with nutritional information stated.

And, maybe, further fishing tools such as how to batch cook, which has been started & is being developed further. Possibly, how to put together your own meal plan. Other ideas might be how to frugalise a recipe, if there are particular family favourites they want to still include. And how to cost up a recipe, if want to use own. Maybe how to adapt for single living, or single parent living, or other non-standard 2+2 situations.

Then would end up with two complete meal plans, one meat & one not, which show it can be done at this price level with all RDAs met. Plus all of the tools Shirl or Kitty would need to be able to develop their own plans, which is a lifelong skill.

Julie those are very good ideas, I really like the how to frugalise a recipe and how to cost up. If I was Shirl I think I would find those very beneficial.

  • Weezl yes I think at least one of the puters has winrar or something similar, so pm away.

Lesley: did you try the planting of the dried peas? I have had huge success with them, almost 100% germination and they grow strongly and quickly and are nom raw, going to try them in stir fry and steamed hopefully this week. I suspect they might be stuffed full of micro nutrients too. The variety I grew ( from big bag of dried peas from the supermarket), tend to grow a lot of tendrils which aren't a nice mouth feel raw, but are pretty easy to just nip off when picking or if you're passing.

Meant to say ages ago Weezl, to keep the cats off my plants I bought a pound land pack of bamboo skewers (bbq type) and inserted them at mad angles amongst the plants. Means the cats cant find a clear patch to dig in and give up and go elsewhere.

Looking forward to the lasagne recipe from howlin, sounds like something we would definitely eat. I started making my own lasagne after someone posted on here. I'm sure on its own it might not be the best pasta in the world, but in lasagne, no one has noticed it :-).
Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.
