    Ohhhhhh.... Someone should !

Actually, we all should, every single one of us - and get all the Old Stylers to do the same - but not with recipes (except for a link to CFR for those of us who are 100% behind it), but pointing out that simple healthy recipes is all well enough, fish is well enough.... But who's gonna teach them how to put together a healthy menu plan, on a budget, deal with leftovers, improvise with what's in season... Teach 'em how to fish, is what we say. Innit ?

Okay guys, gotta fly now, see you probably when I get in to work if it's still quiet....

How about something along these lines somewhere suitable?
The plan provides x mcg vitamin B12. Although below the typical RDA of y mcg, this is sufficient because the plan provides surplus folate (w mcg vs. RDA of z mcg) which reduces the vitamin B12 requirement for individuals who are not already deficient. Individuals who already follow a vegan diet or think they may be deficient in vitamin B12 may wish to supplement their vitamin B12 intake. An additional jar of marmite would bring the vitamin B12 supplied up to the standard vitamin B12 RDA.

if we remove all the snack parts of the houmous that reduces the bread slice shortfall drastically

    We currently have
    hummus x 2 lunches 300g chickpeas
roasted onion hummus x 1 lunch 100g chickpeas
    tomato hummus x 1 lunch 200g chickpeas
red pepper hummus x 1 lunch 100g chickpeas

and a bread slice shortfall/excess of 0 ta da

the chick pea qty's look about right, except maybe the tomato one might result in thick hummus in the sandwiches
this is with 4 slices of bread each per lunch, maybe they could have the tomato on 4 separate slices of toast?

PS have pinged it over in case you want to have a look
yay for lesley, the bread solving cavalry :)

erm, not wanting to grasp at straws, so just to check, if they have 4 slices of bread per lunch, but no bread snacks, then we're fine? Just need to have larger portions of hummus with it?

    yes, that's exactly it
the 4 diff types of hummus are spread over 5 lunches, and there are no hummus/bread snacks

all the other snacks, bread or otherwise are the same

    question for anyone who's around:

if we publish an 'absolute basics shopping list which meats health criteria for absolute minimum cash' leaving people the extra money to spend as they will, is this a genuine good bonus?

Or would people feel like, well, yes but what on earth can I cook with it?

and would the extra money just go on wine? (I have no problem with wine, :Dbut if it would then I'll have to up the amout of F and V in the bare minimums list to counteract the effects of the wine IYSWIM?)

Edit: sorry I'm not expressing this very well :)

I mean if kitty/shirl had met the barest of minimums for £74 a month or just 60p per person per day, is this a helpful list to give and does it have value on our website?

Can I just offer an opinion on this?

As some of you may know, I was made redundant in January and although my partner works for the government, his wage is far from good and money is extremely tight. I'm not as hard up as many, but compared to what I'm used to - although that wasn't a great deal - I'm finding it tough.

I'm constantly on the look out for reasonably priced meals and food, and there are many other factors in my life which is making life pretty damned hard at the moment.

So for those who have always been on low income, it's a hard slog, for those new to it, it's even harder and no matter how positive you are as a person, when you're in this situation we all need something to give us a lift from time to time.

I used to smoke - which was a great stress reliever for me, but I gave up 3½ years ago. So I used to take great pleasure from a glass of wine in the evening...just the one, either purely for the pleasure of it, or to help me unwind. Now I can't afford even that - so what helps me unwind? what breaks the monotony of the daily drudge of looking for the best value food and recipes and my other troubles? NOTHING

However, due to very careful budgeting this month, I was able to afford 3 for £9 bottles of red on offer at £idl at the end of last week - and I can't tell you what a lift it gave me :)

So, my rather very long winded point is.....most people enjoy a drink in their own home, but it's one of the first things you can't afford. So if you offer people the option of living off basic ingredients for a week, and by doing so give them the option to treat themselves to a bottle of wine, then I say FABULOUS! :T

It could make Shirley/Kitty feel it's the difference between existing and living because let me tell you, most of the time it can feel like the former

Do you not have the option of an interlibrary loan, Arty ? Or visiting another library under the SCONUL scheme ?

Weezl, as Kitty's weekly shopping list and batch cooking list have now reached the point where I can't do any more on them until the planner is fully finalised, is there anything else I can help you with ?

BTW, so far it appears that Kitty's batch cooking will be a doddle compared to Shirleys, as so many of her meals are easy enough to prepare after a day's work - so it looks like she'll just be pulling out her food processor to do a bunch of spreads and do a little light baking in addition :T

Have you been to the SRC? ;) (I used to spend more on late fees for that place than I would have done buying most of the books!
I recommend trying this site for books :j
