Also studies suggest oleic acid is responsible for the lowered blood pressure you see in people with a mediteranian diet, coz of the olive oil. Lovely, but our rapeseed oils got a minimum of 17 and a half times the oleic acid as olive oil's got, so our blood pressure should be truly awesome then!

Have a look (from the National Acadamy of Sciences, who are American): http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2544536/?tool=pmcentrez

Anyway I promised maths, I better stop getting distracted.

You remember we said that the amount of oleic acid one would need to take would be between 0.43g and 2.02g.

Then we found out that the percentage of rapeseed oil that is oleic acid is between 59% and 68%.

So at the highest possible figures lets say we need 2.02g of oleic acid a day and our rapeseed oil's got 59% oleic acid then we need 3.82g of rapeseed oil a day.

At the lowest we only need 0.43g of oleic acid and our rapeseed oil is 68% then we need 0.63g of rapeseed oil a day.

So lets be conservative about it again and err on the side of caution, how much rapeseed oil to fill our oleic acid requirements? 474g for the family for the month.

That's 515ml for the family for the week, a bit over half a litre if you like easy numbers.

Now you wanted to know, does the family need thier 515ml of rapeseed to be raw? Dunno, I'll have a look.

Well this is difficult now, I am on applied physics websites and I'm over my head. The proper chemical name for oleic acid is 9-Octadecenoic Acid and from some of these papers I'm getting the idea that it degrades (breaks up) between 200*C and 250*C (I have no idea how to type a degrees thing, so I used a star). That's hotter than most of your baking, so if that 515ml isn't in your recipe plan raw start looking at the cakes.

If you have to look at the baking to find the 515ml of rapeseed oil we're looking for then let me know and I'll come back to it and see if I can find it out. Otherwise I'm gonna drop it till then.

Of course- 515ml of raw rapeseed oil in the months meal planner is ONLY accurate if Wendys magzine's information about 40ml of olive oil a day giving your oleic acid requirements was right to start with.

Might as well look that up too while I'm still on the subject. I notice I'm now boring the knickers off everyone else coz I'm the only person replying haha! Sorry. If I don't write stuff down a lose it, might as well be on here eh.

Nah, not bored, just have nothing to contribute to the science chat!

But I hope you know that now you have demonstrated this talent for research you are stuck here.
In fact there is a rule that states once you have posted (runs off to count) 15 times then you have signed a pledge of allegiance to Queen Weezl and must run around after her, Princess Lesley and take your instructions from Court Adviser Shanks.

You can tell Her Maj that unless my servitude comes with a minor palace, a fleet of servants of mine own and a specialist collection of motorcycles (I will submit my shortlist) that I am !!!!!!ing off to Italy where they better understand my needs! I'm not fussed about the palace too much, just an averageyish one like, oooh I dunno, Sandrigham?

Well oleic acid's not on any lists, but what I did find out is you can get dietry suppliments, with omega's 3,6 and 9 in. Oleic acid is also called Omega 9, as we know. So... I was thinking outside the box a bit... Whatever they put in those b*ggers has gotta be enough right? Well I looked at them for hours. There is no flippin consensus!

    2.535g (here)
    0.825g (here)
    0.420 (here)
    0.3-0.528g (here) << British
    0.270 (here)
    0.200 (here) << British
    0.134g (here)

Oh and most of them are American, Australian and Canadian because there don't seem to be a lot of British ones displaying the numbers.

But the good news is we worked out that one would need between 0.43g and 2.02g of Oleic acid didn't we, well that's at least looking as if it was in the right area if you look at what the suplliments are being made with. In fact our top amount of 2.02g of oleic acid totally outdoes any tablet I could find (that one really high result is a liquid, like cough syrup).

SO whatever the figues are, I'm not worried about them. I am certain if there is 515ml of uncooked rapeseed oil in that menuplan the oleic acid offered is three or four times better than Holland and Barrats supliment and that'll do for me.
