    thanks lesley :)

do you have the nutrition info on your own meal planner for other frugal ingredients?

I was thinking that'd make it heaps easier to calculate the values for new recipes.

I think we only need 10 to a max of 20 new rows and then we'd have a huge amount of possibilities!

oh yes, forgot to say. I got back too late to make soup for lunch today and was looking in the fridge wondering what to have when I saw the other half of the nut roast in there.

I had an experimental nibble and it was much nicer cold, but not something I would want a whole portion of, so I put some pumpkin, apple and date chutney on a piece and tried that and it was much nicer, so I had most of a portion of that for my lunch, followed by an apricot, a few strawbs and some greek yogort

I'll have the rest over the next few days in the same way, don't want to waste it

yes, I have quite a few different things on mine. I have taken to running new recipes through the planner on a copy of the sheet (in the same workbook, different sheet) that I use just for single recipes. Then I can check the price point and nutrition fairly quickly

I think we know dozens of 50p recipes between us, or whatever the price point will be

    long term challenge

rainbow recipes challenge-come one come all!

I would welcome for inclusion in the site any rainbow recipes people care to invent :)

These recipes will be super healthy because they will contain all 5 of your 5 a day, and all of your colours.

They will also be as thrifty as possible :D it would help a lot if you could do your costings from Asda so we can compare like with like.

A reminder of the 5 a day portion sizes:

    fresh/canned/frozen: 80g per portion
    dried: 20g per portion

only one portion of beans/pulses can count.

    the colours:

    red, ie tomato/red pepper
    white, ie onion, celeriac
    yellow/orange, carrot, sweetcorn, BNS
    blue/purple, red cabbage, raisins
    green, peas, runner beans, celery

so if you are building a recipe for a family of 4, put in 320g of onion, and that's a white portion each :)

edit: since blue/purple is tricky, lets have 4/5 colours in the meal. :)

ps Allegra what did you mean t'other day when you said about 'talking to yourself on the thread'? I've been pondering it :)

Now, if you'd asked me back then, I may have had some chance of coming up with a sensible answer, or indeed any answer ! As it is, not a clue, sorry :) Did I cross-post with someone (probably you) saying pretty much the same thing at the same time when I said that ? It happens a lot on here, and it would account for the comment :D

Oh, and personally, I felt there was a Weezl-shaped hole on the tinterweb before you came and filled it

    tee hee :)

Oh good! I thought you'd been feeling ignored, so I'm glad it wasn't anything like that :)

Allegra I've made a change to the size of the spacing of text on the site which should make for a bit less annoying scrolling on your monitor. Could you have a brief lookie and see how that is for you?
