ok I think I've got somewhere with my pondering... what do we think about this team:
we publish an article on putting together your month's shopping list based on the cheapest way to deliver health minimum standars, ie cheapest way to build in 5 a day, how much oil to try to use for omega 3, how much oaty cereal for calcium, b12, iron and folate...
And then say, 'and some of our frugal recipes will get you started?'
Howzat?
Yep, that's what I meant :T0 -
As long as you are comfortable with the healthiness aspect of a recipe, then it warrants inclusion. Other folk can take it or leave it - internet is a big place, room for every whacko going.

ok so carrying on that brainstorm then, how would it navigate? The 'recipes' page will be all kitty and shirley's recipes, and then we have another tab called 'more frugal recipes'?
Or the whole thing is one enormous table?
Or another idea I've not thought of yet?

Kind of 1 and a quarter times the size of the original baked bean tin sized amount here hayley, HTHIt will never need frozen as it is too nice and will get eaten long before it needs frozen. It is soo fine either on toast or it is great used as a dip. I alway add a bit more chilli than on recipe but i like spicy things but def worth a go if you have never had it before
Thanks for thatCan't wait to try it later in the week. I bought some mustard powder this morning from Tesco so am all set now!!

Hayley, can you see any parts of planners 1 or 3 which haven't had many alternatives suggested for them? It might be handy if you said which recipes could do with an alternatives idea or two
But not if that interferes with exams!

sounds brill. I've always thought that the site lent itself very well to be a resource for price point meals
In view of the extreme efforts put in to make the 2 plans we have fit health guidelines, I would like to see them kept separate, and then a tab or something for other recipes that fit the price point(s)
I don't think it invalidates any of our health research efforts to have other recipes. The overall statements on the site on how we made sure the meal planners are healthy would point up the issues we wrestled with, and if people want to use other recipes they can. Many of us try to keep an eye on the healthiness of our diets, not everyone does; not everyone using the recipes will follow an entire months plan, which is fine; not everyone needs to use up all the ingredients during the month and may want to have something else.
I like lots of soups for lunches for instance, and it isn't an issue for me if I use part of a packet of lentils or chick peas during the month to make said soups, what I am watching is the price point for the meals overall, and how much I spend during the month0
