I don't think anyone on here is an idiot arty, sorry if you thought I thought that :o

I'm actually always a bit flummoxed by how intelligent and articulate and skilled all our regulars are.

It does make me wonder what you imagine Shirley and Bob look like though,

I always think of them in a semi with quite alot of T.V's, Bob is rotund and an idiot. While Shirley has bleach blond hair and lets the kids get away with murder, however they are generally ok.:)

But now I'm guessing you think of them as something akin to hillbillys:eek::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Allegra, sorry about the work hours :(

Are you ok about it or a bit of a shock?

It's a shock every year, as every year they switch us over to summer hours a bit earlier ! We're okay though, it does come round every summer, so we are prepared for the general concept, plus it' nice to have a bit more time to dedicate to moneysaving :rotfl:

well that's the best reframe of a scenario of having less money coming in that I've ever heard :D

People! It's not a drop in income, it's an opportunity to do more money saving!

    I love you Allegra :kisses3:

PS have started a thread on Old style asking for ways Barbara/kitty can build her own batch cooking day, so that when we expand still further, she can do it herself (one step closer to fishing for life?)

...and that thread might benefit from some folk playing devil's advocate a bit, cos the old stylers are so used to batch cooking that they feel it's just common sense, but I think we thought novice shirl needed a bit more support than that?

Eeeek ! I have a bread monster growing in my oven ! I dunno why - perhaps all the yeast in Marmite gave the bread yeast too much of a helping hand - but for the first time ever, I found that the no-knead bread rose so high that a mound of dough dripped on to the bottom of the oven and created a rather fetching bread formation :rotfl:

Thoughts so far (having eaten the monster) - the marmite gives it a gorgeous colour, and at 14 tsp per batch, it does actually taste mildly of marmite. On the other hand, despite this amount of marmite providing sufficient salt to replace our usual 3 tsp, it does not taste salty at all.

I have no marmite left except the squeezy stuff for DD's lunches which I mustn't touch, so can't have another go, but next time I'd go for half the amount of marmite - 7 or 8 tsp - and a bit of salt in the mix as well.

hmmmn good summary arty :) yeah, a bit like, in the prettiness have we lost the subsistence. And then people who aren't shirl get lured in and think, 'yummy!' but then go, hang on! where's my freshly cut pieces of melon in a packet, my chocolate, my wine, my pudding every night, my meat everyday..... and then we're more of a let down...
Weezl - I think you have managed to explain that this is a subsistance meal planner but in a way that looks (and tastes) fabulous! If people find /follow links to this site thay are likely to be looking to cut back for a variety of reasons (not just debt) but still want a healthy, balanced diet.

I wouldn't be afraid if people with more money to spend come across the site - they may have more money to spend (and buying treats if they wish) but even incorporating a few meals simply because they look and taste :drool::drool::drool: means they can save £££s too if they want to! Maybe they want to build a better emergency fund, go on holiday or simply want to cut outgoings a bit so they don't get into debt in the first place. Its all good. It may even be a lifesaver for them or their friends in the future if they loose their jobs or aren't well enough to work anymore...

You have no way to control how people use the info... you are providing it for the all Shirleys... but if her richer cousin loves the onion tart and the risotto and wants to make them too I wouldn't stress about it!
