I wasn't lurking, I was planning ;) How does the above grab you, then ? Needs double-checking against your list by a resident pair of eagle-eyes, as my execution of it was mucho high-tech - a piece of paper and a pencil....

one of weezl's more creative ideas-bear with me...

ok so our main ways of delivering enough vitamin b12 to kitty et all is the ready oats and 3 jars of marmite.

So I've been looking for lots of ways to hide the marmite in the recipes. This way, if kitty's family don't like the flavour of it, it won't matter, since it is just yeast, salt and veg extract (ie a very strong condensed veg stock really)

So... bear with me... the bread needs 3 teaspoons of salt, and bread also contains yeast.

So what I'm thinking is, what if instead of putting 3 tspns salt in the bread and shoehorning the marmite in all over the place, why don't I just use the marmite as the salty component in the bread mix?

    peanut and kidney bean loaf

    dessertspn oregano

    teaspoon garlic powder
100g roasted, salted peanuts, smashed up a bit
    320g onion, peeled and chopped
    30 ml veg oil
1 can kidney beans, lightly crushed with a fork
    50g sr flour
    150g oaty cereal
marmitey stock to bring it all together.

Saute onion and garlic in the oil until soft.

Rinse the peanuts under the tap to remove most of the salt. Drain

Tip the beans into a sieve and drain.

Place in a bowl the oaty cereal, drained peanuts, drained beans, herbs and flour and mix together.

Dissolve 3 tsps Marmite in 400ml water and mix into the oaty cereal mixture. When the onions are soft, add those to the oaty cereal as well. Mix well and taste for seasoning. Add more Marmite if it needs it (dissolved in a tiny bit of water), pepper, salt if it needs it (which it shouldn't with the Marmite)

Place the mixture in a small, oiled, casserole dish or something ovenproof of a similar size, a small frying pan maybe. Bake in a medium oven for about 30 mins until the top is crispy and brown.

    Serve with ??

DP and I had it with roasted pots, purple sprouting from the garden, carrots and sweetcorn

I added too much water so the mix was sloppy, I added a total of 600ml in 2 lots and I reckon 400ml would have made a better consistency.

I had to cook it for a lot longer than the 30 mins as I had added too much water.

It was fine, but not one I would do again. The texture was pretty smooth, not what I expected from a nut roast and neither of us particularly liked the Marmite flavour coming through, but then I only really like it on toast!

Having said that, if I was Shirley, I would do it again

hmm, interesting idea. That could work well.

The problem we have with the Marmite and Kitty's planner is of course that people tend to split into love it or hate it. If they can taste it, and they hate it, would be difficult for our Kitty. If it can be hidden away in the bread, it would solve the hating it prob in one go

Well, considering that neither DD nor I travel all that well, and that the weather was so rubbish as to make swimming in the sea out of bounds, it was as good as we could possibly hope for :) My weight was mentioned only once, DD wasn't heckled about forgetting her Croatian (and as a result, of course, was far more relaxed and therefore able to communicate beter), and as the icing on the cake, Mum finally managed to find a couple of old photo albums, which meant I did some fevered clicking away with our new digital camera, and thus managed to reclaim some of our history (all my photos were left behind when DD and I ran away from the ex).

I enjoyed reading about Fergie's bucket and spade adventures - Mummy's boy, isn't he, always on the lookout for a frugal meal :D Just think, this time next year the two of them will be feeding each other slugs... :rotfl:

A couple more important points to address before I move on - firstly, Arty, don't you flippin' dare go anywhere - and Dr Who - I cried buckets. DD was talking about vats of Gorgonzola - yeah, she has been taking pointers from Simon Cowell - and she was right, it was cheesy. Still got me good and proper.

I'm making bread tomorrow (down to my last loaf), and I have Marmite. I'm happy to try :)

dear willing marmitey bread testers (sian, me and allegra)

marmite/yeast extract appears to be approx 13% salt.

That would make 14 teaspoons for a full batch normally requiring 3tspns

    What shall we try?

I feel a right prat now - and that's quite apart from the whole "talking to yourself on this thread" issue. I think me joining facebook may have caused more problems than good - I steered clear from it cos I didn't want to run into the ex, and then when I finally went on, didn't take him long to track me down and comment randomly on my post on the CFR wall. Sorry, guys - this does mean that I will not really be able to contribute on there publicly.

Still, at least he liked the recipe, I suppose - could have been worse, trust me on that one....
