Evenin'. I am so excited to be part of this little project, even if just in a minor way!
Scones! I made them with the tomato paste and got 22 little ones out of the dough. They didn't rise as well as the ones with milk but were still good. I would prefer them not to have mustard in but the 2 friends I have with me say 7/10 and 8/10 respectively. Definitely one for a repeat I think. They are pretty easy to do as well, though your recipe had more ingredients than mine!God is good, all the time

There is nothing to be afraid of you seem to have done really well so far and the fact that you are willing to do this challenge is amazing especially given your lack of confidence. As i have said so many times before we all have our strengths and i am willing to share as much as i can with you and so are many others. I feel i at least owe you something for all the sterling work you have done computer wise (my weakness) and feel free to ask away if it helps you out. That is what we are here on this new thread for xx0 -
Oh, and Arty - whilst I have a whole kitchen on my disposal for cooking and storage, it is really only a titchy one for someone who cooks as much as I do and likes to keep a well-stocked storecupboard, so I have food stashed all over the place, I'm afraid ! Huge plastic storage boxes with lids under the bed, boxes and sacks of onions and potatoes hidden under the dining table, and a big chest freezer in the shed !
Oh dear that sounds like my house:rotfl:.
I left off reading yesterday and there was just half a page 8 and just logged on and you are at page15:eek:. I am at page 10 at the moment.
I have dgd age 5 here till Friday so will just try to read when I can. I will not be trying anymore recipes till she has gone home because I spend as much time as I can with her when she is here. They live too far to see her often so its only in holidays when mum is working and about once a month when they just come to visit.0 -
Thanks Shanks thats very kind. Im really not that good-indexing is not too hard just a bit time consuming and the other stuff I did harks back to my chemistry A level. Nothing as good as all you recipe testers.
I have updated the index and added/taken away everything you wanted me to so far weezl-so just let me know if there is anything else you want me to do to it.

does the chutney need to come off??

Oh and one last question before I do crash out-where abouts is a good place to out the bread to rise? Can I just put it on the kitchen table or does it have to be warmer than that??XXXXXXXIn art as in love, instinct is enough

If you have been cooking/baking already then it prob is if not then on top of the cooker whilst cooking something else or next to a radiator or in your airing cupboard (if you have one) if its a sunny day ha ha then on the window sill where the sun is shining in HTH and i am not too late in answering.0 -
hiya! I wondered if you could say a bit more about the sandwich fillers going off? Which ones were troubling you, a few of us have been having packed lunches and I just wondered if anyone could give any reassurance?
My main concern is with the liver pate and how it might affect food poisoning etc.
You see my partners sandwiches are normally made first thing as my children's. So the food in effect will be unrefrigerated for at least 6-7 hours at least before they are eaten.
Also they is no way in hell (my OH and DS1 are the original bobs) they would fill them up,so will need lots of extras in the pack ups. Also both of children have at least one piece of fresh fruit in the pack lunches and i refuse to give them dried fruit because of the effects of they teeth.
BUT the children are off school till the 18th of April so i will be testing them for the next two weeks before anything is set in stone. If all works out well then my worrying is for nothing and will be able to stick to the meal plan.
Its just me that's all.:o.
Anyway back on track after my enormous rant.
Made the omelette today with the BNS and it was surprisingly very nice. DS2 loved it and scoffed of his, DS1 looked funny at it looking for the bacon. OH said it was lovely. We also had the Croatian salad with it, which was fantastic, me and OH were quite dubious but much to our surprise we really enjoyed it. It tasted quite creamy, DS2 also went back for more as well. So we will be having more often. thanks Allegra for the recipe.:T:T
haven't made the carrot cake yet as i had to make buns for OH's pack up, so i'm doing that tomorrow.0 -

How warm is your kitchen Arty ?
Is your table near a radiator ?
I normally put mine (in the bowl) covered in oiled cling film with a tea towel over, on top of my hob.... thats is NOT on.
But thats just a place that its not getting in the way for me.
If I am in a rush to make it, I put on the hob lights, for a wee tiny bit of heat to help it prove quicker...
I know thats not MSE, but thats what I do
My kitchen temp is normally about 18C ish, give or take 1 or 2.
If you need to use your kitchen table, put it somewhere that it wont get in your way.0 -
arty, I have linked to Allegra's essentials list from post number 3 of this thread, do you think that's a clear enough place? xxx

poohbear, hello
I've been thinking about your lads not liking porridge....
I think with just buying 1 extra bag of SR flour you could use the ready oats and that and the raisins to make breakfast muffins? Could that help?
xxx
arty I hope everyone's fab comments helped last night about the bread, let me know if you hit any snags
