I think I'll try the sweet ones if thats ok? How much tea do I soak the raisins in? Does it matter if its not tea tea - I don't have any normal tea in at the mo! :o I have various fruit, pepermint or earl/lady gray I think.

I hope I'm not too late! I think the lady grey would be nice, or a fruit one. The idea of peppermint in a raisin scone makes me shudder personally, but whatever floats your boat taka! :) I soaked mine in a big mug's worth but only used 130ml in the scone mix.

I didn't get a great rise out of the sweet batch due to omitting the vinegar. I'm nervous of it in sweet things!

Erm am I just confusing things?

No, not at all :) I'm liking the variety and open options - I just keep asking the nitpicky questions in order to keep on top of the recipe list ;)

PS keep drinking the rose chaps, whatever gets you through the month is fine by me ;)

Must be something in the air, cos we had a bottle of rose last night, too ;) Sadly, it appears to be what triggered off my migraine, so I'm teetotal today :(

Arty I'm glad they got there! :)

Allegra, HG, shanks et al, so glad you're liking the foods, what a huge relief :) Shall I drink lots of rose too so I don't get too scared you'll hate me! :):rotfl:

Whatever helps you relax, Weezl ;) You really needn't fear, I promise - I am not at all scared personally, and hugely looking forward to the rest of the month's food :D

Right... fruit scone feedback... ( I left the tea out and did a half batch)

    1) Yummmmmmmmyyyyyyyyy! I have just burnt my mouth on one as soon as it came out of the oven! :o :rotfl:
    2) I added too much raisiny water so had to add another 10g oaty cereal as it was closest and my hands were covered in scone mix to get a decent non sticky dough. :o :rotfl:
    3) They are well fired on the outside but still a wee bit doughy inside so I may cook them at a lower temp for longer (??) next time.
    4) I made 10 from a half batch with my smallest cutter (~5cm diam) and nope they didn't rise much but they are not too solid either and quite sweet.

Off to test another one...

That'll do you fine, Arty - and it'd nothing to be scared of. First thing when you get your shopping delivered an unpacked, get the bread dough mixed and pop somewhere warm to rise. Then zest and juice your orange, pop the raisins in, put on the hob to warm through. Grate carrot, turn off the hob, mix all the carrot cak ingredients, pop in the oven.

Then start on your curd, followed by the nut butter, followed by bean pat, followed by lunchtime pate. As chickpeas need soaking overnight, you will not be able to do the houmus tomorrow - just pop them on to soak as you are cleaning up the kitchen and get back to them the next day.

Hang on, though - did you say you do not have a food processor ? Might be a problem, especially when it comes to the nut butter. Do you know someone you could borrow one from to do your spreads ? You'll be able to make a passable apple curd by pushing the puree through a sieve, and the bean pate will be okay just mashed up a bit with a fork. Nut butter is no go by hand though, and the liver pate might be a struggle too :(

Don't panick, though - I'll be back on tomorrow and we'll think of something :)

Thank you Allegra-you're so good at this.:D

As my printer has given up the ghost :mad:I have gone old school and bought a new shiney pink exercise book and written the recipes in. Now I have had a good look at them I am less nervous however the food processor issue has rasied its head.

My landlady does have a super duper food blender thingy but as many of the recipes need this I dont want to rely on her good will so I will pop out tomorrow and buy one.

I probably will just get a very basic model will this be ok???

    Sorry for being rubbish:o:(

Nomnomnom! Second one is cool enough not to burn - now tastes less sweet and quite oaty (prob cause I had to add more :o) and very good! :D I may have to freeze some of them or I'll eat them all waaaaaay too quickly! :o

I'll buy some more SR flour on the way home from work tomorrow and try a half batch of both of the savory ones tomorrow evening! I'm curious to know if I'll like the cheese ones as I wasn't keen on my mum's wholemeal cheese scones as a kid. I haven't tried cheese scones in 20 odd years! :p

Arty i am doing more or less the same as you tomorrow apart from the bean pate which i did today and only takes 1 min of prep then all you have to do is stir a couple of times them beat it to death with a masher.
Pate i have done before and that is also simple and quick so i ouldnt worry too much the one that will take the longest IMO is the carrot cake the rest kind of do their own thing. We will be here to help if you get stuck.

BTW Weezl-I know this is going back a way but I agree with you that a blender/food processor is an ESSENTIAL piece of equipment. Looking at homous/pate recipes they seem very easy and do-able only if you have one of these! Pushing stuff through a sieve is a step too far for me: even if a crazy lady from Wales asks me to!!!!!
