oooh yes please taka :) either the tomatoey one i suggested to sian earlier or either of the 2 types I posted at the usual place today :) the sweet ones are particularly moreish! Obviously you can use butter/spread which is veggie freindly instead of the lard :)
I think I'll try the sweet ones if thats ok? How much tea do I soak the raisins in? Does it matter if its not tea tea - I don't have any normal tea in at the mo! :o I have various fruit, pepermint or earl/lady gray I think.

    Hi guys

one car ride, four trains, a taxi ride and nearly seven hours later, I'm back in the sunny midlands!!!!

Phew that was a day and a half so I am indulging in very expensive, frozen, non nutrient containing, sold from the evil supermarket pizza with lashings of wine!!

Once I have eaten I will sort out the index weezl

Dinner was a success and included a friend of DD3's, who is a veggie, so worked well.Though DD1 said there wasn't enough omelette, though that was just cause it was nice and she wanted some more.
I did ours with chips, we aren't wedges fans.
DH thought it was a lunch not a main meal, I suggested that's probably why we're fat ;)

We also had ours with sparkling rose...sorry

    So, 1 day down

weezl Just a thought on tomorrow's dinner. Is there enough oil and garlic to do a kind of garlic bread to go with the carbonara?

I've been out of action most of the day today with a migraine, but did manage a batch of bread, a carrot cake and chili for tonight in between bouts of lying down in a darkened room.

Bread-wise, I had another go at the no-knead as I refuse to be defeated by a foodstuff. I was a lot more careful about keeping things warm and away from draughts, and I put a pinch of bicarb in the water in hope of softening it a bit - and my patience has been rewarded :) Still didn't rise quite as high as Weezl's, but definitely not a brick - the loaves filled the tins to the top, but went no higher.

Bread a hit with DD - prefers the texture to Paul Merrett (or indeed to my usual), but prefered the salt water crust on the PM. Might try a salt water crust on the no-knead next time, now I'm a bit more confident about it.

Carrot cake is beautiful. Weezl, what are you doing to me, turning me into a sugar lover ? :D DH liked it too, but DD is having none of it. Carrots are good, cake is good, but carrot in a cake ? No way. She did try a bit, and pronounced it nice for a carrot cake, but the mentl stumbling block was too great to finish the slice even. She had some more bread instead ;)

Chili - 8/10 from DH, and about the same from me. The way I normally make it is not too far off this recipe, except I use passata instead of tinned toms, and green peppers instead of carrots. This was fine, though. Made loads - I did a single batch and that made three meals' worth for us two. So I am already stashing leftovers away, a single day in ;) Pretty darn cool, if you ask me.....

Weezl, can you just confirm if scones have now replaced the cheese balls, the cereal bars and the tomato oat biscuit ? And if so, what are we having for lunch on the days that we were gonna have the oaty biscuits ?

I think there's some spare oil cos I'm not convinced that 30ml per person will be needed each time you have potatoes :) I think you can do pretty good wedges with 10-15ml per person, so I'd say go for it :D Garlic wise, did you go for gia paste or powdered stuff in the end?

well with pretty much similar amounts of twiddlation it appears we can do either! We can have (I think) 4 batches of savoury scones flavoured with cheese and mustard, 3 batches flavoured with tomato, and 4 batches of 21 scones with raisins in. And a savoury flapjack of as yet uncertain portions flavour method or ingredients :rotfl:or we can have cheese balls, the cereal bars and the tomato oat biscuits :D

the lunches would have to be the scones and chutney/hm mayo, or Mr Frankie's soup, cos now the scones can plug that hole :)

Erm am I just confusing things?

PS keep drinking the rose chaps, whatever gets you through the month is fine by me ;)
