Aless I made some enquiries about a London stay on 24-26th September.

For family quarters for all 4 of us for the weekend, breakfast included it's £240 does that sound ridiculous/about right?

Would that be a good weekend for folk to come to the IWM?
    xxx

I'm planning to be in London around 4-6th September or 2nd - 5th October. Are either of those dates any good? (There are events/exhibitions on those dates I'd like to go to) I can't really afford to travel to London a 3rd (or possibly a 4th time ) in 10 weeks (I'm there late July too ) but I'd love to meet you all! :o:p

£240 for the weekend in a family friendly room sounds good! :D

Just a quick visit to say I broke my laptop last night. Can I recommend NOT changing your password after lots of alcohol. I am locked out! I haven't been able to do any of the things I planned to do to help:( and I can't get it sorted until tomorrow.

The thread is moving super fast at present so I will try to catch up after DS3 has gone on Monday.

BREAD RECIPE slight error - it says: "Activate 15g yeast in hand hot water with sugar until it forms a foamy head as in the picture." and then it goes on to say: "Add about 2 1/4 pts warm water, gradually til you get a not too slippy dough."

Now *I* know you mean the water with the yeast in, but Shirley might think you need ANOTHER 2 1/4 pints of warm water, IYSWIM. (EDIT - at least that's what I *think* you mean - the jug in the pic looks quite full.)

Incidentally - how long does it take for the yeast to activate? I've tried to get it to activate twice now, waiting an hour for both, but I'm not getting any froth or bubbley 'head' (and where's the *shrug/confused* smiley gone??)

OK, I've worked it out. I definitely had my Shirley head on today, cos I know how to make bread but following the recipe bamboozled me!:rotfl:

You need to tell Shirley to activate the yeast according to the instructions on the pack (and then say that if there are no instructions, here's how: ...). Then you need to say WHEN to add the yeast - is it WITH the water? After it? Before it?

ALSO - the water temp. "Hand hot" could mean anything. I have asbestos hands, so MY "hand-hot" will probably be much hotter than the yeast can stand. You need to find another way of measuring/describing the temp without a thermometer...

And when you say "mix by hand" - do you mean WITH your hands? Or with a spoon?

Yep! Much better :) Although I would change this bit:

"activate in hand hot water with sugar"

    to something this (for clarity):

"activate by mixing the yeast and the sugar in a small cup of hand-hot water"
