am just looking at the onion tart recipe for the cals etc. It's got a great thing on the top about what size dish to use, but if I said an 8" dish to my daughters they would need me to translate it to cm before they knew what size it was (I'm the other way round!).

would it be worth having inches and cm?
Everything else is in metric I think so dish sizes should be too.

I did wonder about having ounces as well as grams in the recipes but think it might be too much info on the page. We could have a page with conversion charts for mls and fluid oz/pints, etc too.

In recipes in school I always had both metric and imperial as lots of mums organised ingredients for their kids as many people did not have metrc scales.

I have just asked DS3 who is 19 does he think in inches or cm and he says he thinks inches and converts to cm! And all he has been taught is metric!

I found the test here http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html

    Guess what I am?

Yes. I have low iron at the moment so have been studying the figures. It's one of the highest things that one can eat a significant amount of. (Various thing like curry powder, dried dill and tea leaves are loads higher but I can't see myself eating enough of them.)

    Black pudding is 16.2 mg/100g.

Cashews are the highest iron nut I've found with 6 mg/100g.

How about the lunchtime pate? Liver is excellent but iron can only be absorbed when eaten with vitamin c. This is what we were taught but thinking on it may have changed in recent years.

weezl Can I just say the months menu plan is MUCH easier to read now as I can see the weeks separately:D

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we have a higher than usual amount of INFP/Js on this thread.

You can add me to that list.:)

I'm 22 and think in feet and inches. However I can also think in cm so dont think it matters too much.

Thank you Weezl, if only it were true !
I haven't got any particular nutritional expertise, although am very interested. Our "factoids" and lesson plans were designed by teachers and are aimed at primary school children in year 6. They look at something, what it does in the body, and where it is found. Is this the kind of thing you wanted, although obviously not aimed at an 11 year old child? Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely? Or am I just barking? :p
Enjoy your steak. OH wanted that but I went to town with no purse...:o
hmmmn, give me an example of what you might say about calcium having read the thread (and calcium gate!) and then we'll have a think about how much shirl would like to know about these nutrients?

I think from what susan's saying, people would most likely appreciate knowing that in such a low cost planner it had been thought of :)

If anyone is willing for a task, to go through the recipes which have a piece of kit described in inches and give it's equivalents I will certainly upload it when I have chance :)

Approximately 7.5g/100g (I estimated the weight of oil and garlic powder) but a serving is only 10g. It is good but it's hard to eat a large portion of pate. I think I'm generous when I use pate but still only have 20g in a meal (I weighed it last week).

Women aged 19-50 should have 18mg per day (men 8 and pregnant women 27) which is actually suprisingly hard.

I've never heard that iron can't be absorbed without vitamin C but it is supposed to help as are meat proteins. Tannins, calcium, polyphenols and phytates inhibit iron absorption.

I [STRIKE]am [/STRIKE]was a scientist and I think in inches (and pounds and ounces etc.) I am of the opinion that metric is for Science and imperial is for Real Life.

I'm providing 675mg of bob and shirl's monthly iron through the good old hot oaty dooo da or else I think their diet would be a trifle low in it too Susan :o

Reading what you've just put above I wonder if I need a covering sentence on the nutrition page about not expecting this planner to deliver all the nutrients if people are pregnant?
