Hey all, hope it's been going well and the testers are feeling very proud of themselves! Weezl, what you have done has been fantastic and I can't believe you have done it all wiht 2 small boys

I checked out the website, looks fabulous and very easy to negotiate.

When I was scanning through some of the recipes I noticed that the breakfast pancake recipe seems to suggest letting the juice come out of the carrot and onion, I assume this means the method has gotten confused with another one, or those are some funky sweet pancakes!

    Hugs to all!

Think the Asda non-endorsement should be above the shopping list as people are more likely to look at this first before the costings.

Regarding the snacks, I think Shirl should be given both options as members of the family may have different tastes. Hope this makes sense.

I liked the carrot cake and oaty rasin biscuits as I have a sweet tooth, but the cheese scones were nice too.:D

    cheers CBM,

That's a really interesting link! The OP has quite a clear non-negotiable there too:

sounds like cyril will appreciate planners 2 and 3! Must press on!

Yes, happy eggs and meat add a proportionately huge expense to the food bill, but using just some of the concepts you've established would reduce his food bill from £35 per person per week!

I thought I'd like to try your recipe for carrot cake, I've tried quite a few over the last few months and haven't settled to one yet. I just wondered why it is categorised as 'meat' on the recipe list on the website? I'm a veggie but can't spot anything in the ingredients list that I wouldn't eat?

As a novice cook (which I know is disgraceful at my age) I'm quite proud to be trying a 'medium' recipe (carrot cake) and wondered about the possibility of awarding gold stars ... certificates... awards....:rotfl:

As another long time lurker (maybe we should start a club :rotfl: ) I'd like to say what an amazing achievement this whole idea has been, and I have the utmost admiration firstly for Weezl for coming up with the idea, but also for ALL of those who have taken part. It truly is something to be very proud of :T

A couple of questions - one is possibly a bit dumb :o but if you don't ask you don't learn......I'd love to have a crack at the Carrot Cake but the only suitable tins I have, are a 2lb Loaf Tin & an oblong tin 8" x 9 & 1/2" x 1 & 1/2" (internal measurement) If I halved the ingredients, would there be enough mix for the oblong tin do you think? Or would it best to keep to the original quantities and make it in the loaf tin?

    Secondly

I think it's because that particular recipe is for Planner 1, which is the "meat" planner. There's an eggless one which might possibly go into planners 2/3, but only weezl knows that for sure ;).

The link was somewhere else, lemme find it...

it's gone so you obviously fixed it :)

I make my carrot cake in a rectangular dish, too...I usually half it and I THINK my dish is roughly that size.

If you click on weezl's name on one of her posts, then go to "go to weezl's homepage". Then on THAT page, on the right hand side there's a bit called "Links" - it's the 1st one. I would post the direct address, but not sure weezl wants us to yet. :o

    Hi Hippeechiq.

Have made half quantity of carrot cake and used an 8" x 8" tin, cuts into 16 squares

Also made quarter of recipe and used a 1lb loaf tin, cuts into 8 squares.

The cake doesn't rise a lot so either tin would probably be ok.

    HTH

    weezl, I love your website.
And I agree with the others who have suggested that you should write a book.

I haven't calculated exact costs yet for last month but I thought before I forget I should give you the verdicts from my family.

DH said it was quite acceptable, a few times he was hungry but we always had things to snack on. Before the plan 1 test we weren't a snacky family so It was a slightly different way of eating for him.

DS1 was only here for the first week and didn't notice much difference from the way we normally eat except he lovd the nut butter and wanted me to make extra for him to take to uni.

DS2 Probably found it the most difficult to start with as he doesn't eat cake, puddings or scones.
He said he was hungry sometimes but once I had made the lunchtime pate he was happier. I also made savoury oaty biscuits for him from the thrird week onwards and then he was much happier.
DS2 was very keen to help cook and also took to measuring quantities of rice, pasta etc and then instead of leftovers going to the dogs and hens we always made exactly the right amount. Dogs and hens have probably missed out a bit.

DS3 was here for the first two weeks and then here only at weekends. He was happy with the whole plan but did lose 2lbs in weight.

I gained two pounds in the first two weeks but then stayed the same. I have missed my vegetables and have eaten cake which I didn't do before. Once I realised that eating more cake was not good for me I settled to a tiny piece as a snack each day.

All the family missed the cheese, once it was hidden from them. But they were eating far too much of it and they are now much happier to sprinkle a little pandano on their pasta dishes without the additional cheddar.

    I will continue later...
