recipe in only the very loosest of senses howlin' :) It's a bit experimental so I'd suggest a half batch which should yield 16 bars (cereal bars is not a good descriptor of the end consistency which is more like a soft shop-bought style flapjack)

    165 g raisins
    250ml oil
    350ml water
    300g sr flour
    100g lard
    300g hot oaty cereal
    2 tspn spice (garam/cinnamon)

In a pan, warm the water with the sugar and raisins in to plump the raisins and dissolve the sugar. Cube the butter or lard and add it to the hot water to melt. Allow to cool down to hand hot.Add the rest of the ingredients, mixing thoroughly, then cook in a roasting tin/large suare cake tin for 30 mins at gas 4 until very slightly browned on top and with a 'give' under the pressure of your finger. Cut into 32 long rectangles. :)
Weezl - would this work with buttery spread instead of lard? I'm veggie so lard is out for me but I was about to try to make some cereal bar type things this evening so I'd be happy to give them a go too if you want?

Is this the full batch or half batch? What size tin would be a good idea? (I tried to make kitty's vegan shortbread at the weekend and my tin was too small I think - it was too thick so not really crunchy in the middle bit - top and bottom fine though! I'm not sure I'd have garam in that next time - 'twas very odd! :rotfl: I kept thinking it'd benefit from some apricots set in it as a tart type thing though! :rotfl:

taka I'm making it with butter as I don't eat lard either. I think the recipe is fo rthe full batch but is currently missing a vital component

taka, a halved batch of the above (edited!) version would be splendid thanks, I've had to swap oats for the cereal so I'm hoping the texture is ok.

Re the shortbread, mine was less than 1 cm thick if that helps? also I think my oven cooks things too long/short sometimes cos murrell has had similar difficulties with my timings. I think the testing month is a great way to find all this out! If a little  for our lovely testers :)

Welcome back by the way :D

I think it was my tin size that was the problem - I used a 8 inch round cake tin (the recipie said use a 9 inch tin) but it ended up ~2cm thick in the middle after cooking (I didn't think it'd rise as much!) :rotfl: My oven is very randomly rubbish anyway so don't go by my cooking temps either! :rotfl:
