Hi Weezl
I did dip into the old thread regularly to see how everyone was progressing but did not read all of it.
I think Post 2 of this thread sets out exactly what your aims and ideals are.
This new thread has also consolidated the ideas, suggestions and recipes from Phase 1.
Made the Weetabix Cake on Thursday. I weighed 2 whole Weetabix and used the crumbs and broken ones to the same weight. Will try and make it last a week:D

Howlin I had the same problems, just couldn't get it right when I tried. Hopefully taka will fair better.
Ok, so DH confesses that he had a kebab on the way home cause he thought we were starting the Frugal Plan today...hahaha....and it wasn't very nice. Divine retribution!!!
So, I guess I'm going to have to make sure there is something kicking around for him to eat if he doesn't like the meal. He is going to give it a go, I think he's just nervous that he's not going to enjoy anything.0 -

hmmmn if the cereal bars aren't working for a few folk, I think I might rejig. Am thinking we can go down the route sian suggested a while back and do some sweet and some savoury scones...
will have to play and tweak a little with my spreadsheet....
is everyone ok for the first 2 days without any cereal bars ie only the carrot cake and what's on the menu? I don't want anyone hungry while we footle around with scones!!!

thanks frankie, you are doing an ace job. Did either of your DDs have any responses about the nut butter or choosing lunches and brekkies?
I have some more thoughts on variety going back to our discussion of earlier a,d then I'll log off and relax a bit
It does occur to me that creative shirleys like frankie could see the shopping list as a way of ensuring all the nutrition is met, and pretty much cook whatever you like as long as it uses it all up!
there are lots of recipes I've come across that would fit this list of ingredients (bacon turnovers, cheese and onion fritters), but I've just not had enough time to work out what that would mean in terms of the leftovers being fitted in. We are down to almost zero waste now, which has been quite a challenge, but there is almost nothing remaining at month end apart from some slices of bread :T:T:T this has been the toughest part by a long chalk!
If you had more time, you could eat many more different recipes and still achieve nil waste, but it would take some doing.
It's something we can definitely suggest on our website though- an option for someone who likes to experiment and have lots of variety and not follow a prescribed plan, just say, buy all this and use it up over the month!

Shanks' Eggless Mayo
3tblsp milk (i used UHT skimmed)
250ml oil
1 dessertspoon vinegar (i used malt)
1 teasp mustard
S&P
2 teasp lemon juice (added after mixture was thick due to another tester finding it split)
Whisk milk til frothy add vinegar, mustard S&P then slowly add the oil. Once mixture has thickened then add lemon juice and continue whisking til desired consistency is achieved. Taste as you go along.
shanks shirley has 650 ml oil, so I'm just thinking I'll multiply everything up by 2.5 for a final recipe?
what do you think?
Yes that sounds fine however with the milk that you are using (its fresh isnt it?) i wouldnt want to make up too much at a time for fear of it going off unless there is a recipe that uses a quantity at a time i would do little and often a bit of a faff but sour mayo might put BOB off for life0 -

It's probably because I didn't put in all the oil required by the recipe but the texture is not good at all. It's very soft and yielding but it's also dry. On the plus side it does not taste of oil. Can we make some garibaldi biscuits instead? The flavour is alright but there is no oaty texture. In some respects its a bit more like bread or a bread pudding than an oaty bar.
Once its completely cool I will try again and report back.

cereal bars were no better cold so I have iced them with some orange water icing in the hope that this will improve matters. They look like flapjack and they have the squidgy-to-the-touch top that you described Weezl but the just seem dry to eat. Flavour is fine though.Sealed pot member 735
