i hope you mean drop bags which he breaks down into red delivery pouches
if he injures his back on delivery then the ever caring RM managers will be weighing his bags to see if he caused it

    No I mean delivery pouches.

He has a van driver who is willing to take the excess pouches and drop off each one to hubby if he can text him around 15 minutes in advance. As each one is dropped, he can rearrange it so he's carrying some of the weight in his hand and not on his shoulder.

And before you say anything, that was a manager's suggestion! What are you supposed to do when they aren't enough bags for all the posties and the managers threaten disciplinary if any post is left behind?

Although I understand he will be getting a "golf trolley' soon which will take some of the weight off him and allow him to take two pouches at a time.

Fair enough but you are assuming everything works they way it does with your husband's depot. Things are generally more laid back up here (regardless of 'official' policy). You may well be correct and our sorting office has also changed to work in this way (in which case I will accept my point about later delivery is unfair to the postie), but it certainly didn't less than a year ago.

TBH the sooner folks get over delivery times the better
its really tiring spending every day with the 'late today' etc etc
however that doesnt excuse misdeliveries etc
how its handled depends very much on the management at the office covering your area
in my old office it would be apathy most of the time TBH

Ok, I've just phoned to clarify. :D

Guidelines are..... the postie sorts and then delivers from 7.30am. Once he's done, he's done.

In reality if he has finished his sorting sharp he can leave sharp, otherwise he'd be sitting twidling his thumbs until 7.30am arrived. It's down to him how quickly or slowly he gets round his route.

Same postie sorts and delivers so any mistakes are down to him.

(I didn't complain about the postie during this call btw, I'll have a word with him myself.)

well he will be doing park and loop soon with golf trolleys/HCT's or whatever
in my old office they cable tied the golf trolleys into the vans *shrug*
so i had 2 trolleys in the van for a duty thats all tenement stairs
TBH posties need to see the bigger picture
the weight matrix for bags is in place and should be followed
i have seen staff on the attendance procedure due to overweight bags so it happens
we all used to load up our bags but its time for self preservation

The scale of the changes that are planned are large, so if your rural town escapes, fair play to you. In fact if it does, we're going to come and live near you!

He does. Get the post out leaving nothing behind or you'll be disciplined.

There are several posties in hubby's office who are in the process of being squeezed out through these procedures. That's one way RM is getting rid of those 25% of full-time posties - 'natural' wastage.

Right now, self preservation involves keeping his job and keeping marks off his work record in case he needs to find another job.

  • Custardy: I'd like to ask you a question re: tenement buildings. Do posties need a key to gain access? and if they dont have one what is procedure?
We live in tenement, and for the last year a half have never had any problems with the postie ringing the buzzer (my boyfriend works evening/night shifts so is in during the day). In the last week we have had 2 notes shoved under the door (not a while you were out card with a name, just a card with a note scribbled on it) sayin they couldnt gain access, despite my boyfriend being home, the buzzer was not pressed at all. I am waiting on a few items of post but obviously have no proof that this is what was tryin to be delivered, as nothing had names on it, so I have not been offered the option to arrange redelivery and have no proof of anything being in my name if i trek all the way down to the delivery office. I have tried the delivery office about a million times and they never answer their phone. So i have no idea if i have post, and if i do how i am meant to get it/claim it? hope you can offer me some advice!
Debt 1: Personal Loan £88 per month til 2010
Debt 2: Overdraft of £900 limit, now down to £500, should be down to £200 by end of April and then cleared end of May
Debt 3: Credit Card £500 - haven't spent on it in a long time, so just to pay off the £500

the official SOP (though it shouldnt it does vary from office to office) is that you should ring only those you have mail for
if you get no answer from those then you mark the mail as no entry and move on
the best solution is a service button as it doest rely on anyone passing on a key to a n other postie
however if you have no service button then a key is the next best thing

my way of doing it would be to give people a week as often you get people in on a Saturday who are out all week,on the Saturday i would ring every buzzer regardless of mail
if i get no entry all week then i leave the mail in the office and put a note under the main door to tell the customers their mail is in the office

stairs are a pain,TBH if its just happened you either have a broken buzzer or a new postie to the round
even worse if they have never done stairs. its one of these things,if you have never done them theres a nack to the buzzers, flat numbers etc
