Just to let you know, it was spotted that there were two October threads, so I have merged them into this one to make it less confusingHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Hi All
I've looked on here or a while and just ound this thread- so glad I'm not alone. Congratulations to you all and some of you are scarily organised
I am also getting married on October 29th 2011 in Leicester- not sure why its not so popular but not complaining as it gives us a more exclusive feel.
We went for the last day of summer as it gives and an extra hour drinking/ sleeping depending on how the party goes. It also coincides near the 1st anniversary of losing my dad so that was a big for me too.
our budget is fairly tight as we hadn't planned to get married- got engaged on bonfire night last year but my mum is helping us out a bit.
So far we've booked
venue - beautiful old guildhall with a champagne reception (buying it from france when future inlaws go on hols and no fee's to pay venue)
reception venue- lovely local boutique hotel- we're having a late wedding so we're only doing a buffet - we have too many kids of our own and others coming for them to sit still and I enjoy the way people mix at buffets more. This'll be followed by desert canapes later in the evening and the hotel is providing us with an extra £300 to spend on food/ drink as we booked after a wedding fayre so that'll help
we got the wedding rings when we got engaged - on sale in a local shop £60 for all 4 rings-bagain
Cake- being made by a friends mum as a gift- she does it professionally and will do anything we want (her words):)
Cupcakes- another baker friend is making wedding cupcakes or the kids:)
dress- ordered a corset- saved £250 as in the clearance online and i'll wear it again but not sure about anything else
Photography- a friend of ours is a professional and is doing it as a gift- we also have a few very talented friends who will also be photographing it so should go ok:)
bridesmaids- only having 1 adult and our daughter and we bought her dress of ebayfor £16(hope it fits in oct)
Ushers/page boy- need to hire kilts
Flowers- I'm making my own felt and fabric flower and button bouquets or us all- already started and looking ok
We don't need cars as we can walk to the venues and I'm also making the invites. I'm planning to make the favors- mini jars with homemade truffles as these can be frozen beforehand and kept for a couple of weeks after- not that I think they'll last that long
we're struggling a bit with music as we both love live bands but they seem really expensive (£875 for a local band that play free gigs in pubs:( )
Sorry if I've prattled but never sure what else i need to do- any advice definitely appreciated;)0 -
for cars we are considering two options (for our 8 October wedding).
First is a place that does London cabs for a few hours for £60. Including ribbon and flowers in the back. Or we are going to put a note on some of the lovely cars in the area, including an old rolls which isnt in perfect condition, but white and clearly much loved by the owner. Was thinking of offering them a professional clean in exchange for driving me to the church. Am hoping that car owners love for showing off their cars will make them want to help!
seems a waste to pay for a car, when there are so many lovely ones around.
from church to venue we have splashed out and got two london buses! We have saved on champagne reception and sending most guests on a short london tour with cheaper champagne and nibbles. And the other one will be for family and us for photos.0 -
Just revisited this thread as thought I should give an update on our plans!
· Venue, registrar, photographer, band, florist, kilt hire for the men, honeymoon all booked
· Bought my dress - half priceGot shoes off eBay
· Saving M&S vouchers for wedding cake so this will be FREE
· Ordered bridesmaid dresses off eBay and bought tiaras for them (also off eBay)
· Booked hairdresser and had trial
· Sent out invites (we are getting married in Scotland a long way for most guests so sent invites out in plenty of time)
Feeling pretty sorted, just trying to pay for things now and save as I know they'll be a "big hit" at the end.
We've put everything we can on our M&S card (and pay off in full) then using the points to pay for our wedding cake from there which has been a good incentive.0 -
I've had a few bits come together recently so it feels we're not far off now.
Dress - Linda is making
Jewellery - found perfect on ebay
Shoes - bought last week - well happy
BM dress, shoes, accessories - sorted
Suit hire for OH and our lads - just found a guy who lives nearby who does home service so will use him
Ties and cufflinks - bought
Invites - ordered, not written but everybody has seen website so they've been able to book hotels etc
Venues - all sorted. Have an idea for where I'm going to sort table decs etc from
Favours - in hand, will order in a couple of weeks
Hotel for wedding night - booked
Hotel for me and BM the night before - down to one of two, waiting on best price
Transport (wedding cars and a coach) - booked
Photographer - booked
Cake - probably M&S
BUT hair and make-up - done nothing about yet and that's my worst thing now. Must get organised!!
Yesterday was 5 months to go!!0 -
Hi Folks
Just thought I'd update- not that anyone is really bothered but me lol.
I'v just bought my dress - gorgeous and so different to anything I would ever have imagined me in. I got it from weddingdress-factoryoutlet.co.uk in leicestershire. Not spammy advetising - just was amazed at how relaxed and easy (ish) it was. I had been starting to worry as lots of people panic you and say its getting late etc and this place- just went in- tried a load on- got 1 I love-easy as pie.
anyway dress done; invites have been started the rest can wait:)
good luck too all

Hi all,
I guess I can pitch my tent here as well. Not every bride get two weddings! :j
My traditional wedding is on the 22nd and 23rd of October 2011 and the white wedding is 7th April 2012 so I having 2 very large ceremonies. I wonder which will be my anniversary date? lol
I have just ordered the invites. I'm off to London on sunday for a full day of shopping for clothes. I will need at least 3 clothes change including shoes, bags and jewelleries.
My female family members will be responsilbe for all the food and cooking. My dad for the drinks and entertainment
OH has no idea about my tradition, but he and his family will pay for my dowry and bride price obviously I can't contribute to my own bride price!
However, I am accomodating everybody from the UK.
Happy planning all

Hello everyone! I'm getting married on the 23rd of October in Somerset.
Not going to lie, haven't done a great deal to be honest. We have booked the registrar and venue - I have my dress and my bridesmaid dress.
I'm currently in the process of creating all the wedding stationary at the moment - invites, rsvp cards, ispy cards etc.
Looking forward to seeing how everyone is getting on!
Is anyone else having a crafty wedding? I'm hoping to make most of my things for the wedding.0 -
Helloo Everyone
Well update on my wedding, which is the 1st October 2011 - Leicester
Everything is booked now, just need to pay for things....Went and choose my wedding flowers today and paid the deposit. I also bought my wedding ring today, which looked lovely when I tried it on.
My wedding dress is fully paid for and is at my MIL's so it is out of view of my fiancee lol
The only little things I need to get are table runners, balloons for evening do, guest book and cake knife/server....
How's everyone else's plans coming on?Married the love of my life on 1st October 20110 -
