Time for a brief report, I suppose. It is only 10.45 and a very large and awfully ugly frog has been eaten. Started at 6.35 and stuck with it till done. Feels great. Now a bit of rest and onto the next one.
I so don't want to start on a journey that will end in tears, tiredness and trouble. Iceland should be visited another time. Given that BA have cancelled their flights to Scotland, how likely is it that they will be flying to Iceland?

Gosh, so much to catch up on here. FW I have promoted your diary and blog to another MSE er, she read your comments on mine and was very impressed! I am sure she will be along when she finds time. Hope you don't mind. Now listaholic did somebody say. That is me. I lost my way for a while and I have to say that I do believe it made me quite mentally exhausted (well even if not really I did feel it).
With regards to Iceland FW, when are you due to fly? Can you not eat a really big frog and just suggest that, given the situation, even if the flights are not cancelled, that you are not prepared to travel. After all last time it took weeks for it to escalate and then dissipate (is that even a word?). Remember that YOU are in control of your life and sometimes you have to say no to things. I am sure that if you take control they will see the benefits in rescheduling. I did this when I was due to travel the day after the July bombings. I was due to go to Westminster but I decided that travel would be a nightmare so I rang to advise that I was opting out, 2 hours later they cancelled after reconsidering continuing with it.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. FW even if you manage to fly out, it doesn't mean you'll be able to fly back if the ash gets worse/changes direction. Iceland isn't like mainland europe, it would be a lot more difficult to find an alternative way home.
When there are travel problems, I tend to monitor the situation from the departure and destination airport sites too, you just google them, here's the link for Keflavik if that's the airport http://www.kefairport.is/english/ here's the icelandic website on the latest volcano info http://www.isavia.is/?PageID=416&NewsID=2839 Admittedly the flight info at the moment looks like flights are OK at the moment.
We had major worries about getting back from switzerland last year, fortunately it cleared just in time.0 -
Sorry to be self centred about it, but those links are fascinating, se! FW, you *know* I'm concerned for you, but I couldn't resist ending up at the live webcams (though I went to an English version of the site, it might as well have stayed in Icelandic, lol) - the first one wasn't functioning, but then there was what I presume was Reykjavik's harbour - a few cars trolling about, seagulls peacefully sleeping on the gentle waves lapping the front; the next looked more ominous at first, lots of steam about - and then I saw all the people in swimming trunks with snorkels on :j:j:j I wish I lived in Iceland, on this evidence!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Thank you, Se. This looks OK - if there are delays of three hours or so tomorrow my flight is doggy, though - flying late evening (21 something) from Heathrow.
Anyhow...back to frogs and froglets.

Just spotted an arrival from heathrow is cancelled, and a departure to gatwick has a mega delay, but sometimes that's just due to planes being in the wrong place after the airport being shut the day before.0

That sounds like you had a great day, FW! And wowza to the Liverpool marathon - I'm going to google it, maybe I can tie it in to a weekend with my mum ....
Yes! Early October is just right for a visit, after I see her mid August down here! Thanks FW!
Please do - it will be a good oportunity. And four days after the marathon is my birthday.

Hi Se, just checked - the Heathrow flight is the one I am supposed to be on tomorrow; it is saying that todays flight will be there at 11.00 tomorrow. This means it is cancelled doesn't it?

In all this over-performing, super-organised and following flights to Iceland haze I forgot to tell you all that today is a big holiday for me. May 24 is the day of the Cyrilic Alphabet and the Slavic culture. It symbolyses most of what I stand for - cultural revival, the importance of knowledge and the use of knowledge to be free of opression. Yes, I wish I celebrated better.
