Shouting at the telly is always good, particularly after having a good cry to Long Lost Family.

No El, none of my family is lost.....sometimes wish some of them were! Long Lost Family is a Kleenex fest on ITV where they reunite childrens and parents or siblings. It's lovely and very soppy.

I only managed to watch one of the programmes - found it too upsetting.
I thought Nicky Campbell was excellent with the people - because he understood how they were feeling. Davina just annoyed me -"We have a photo of the relative you have never met (usually mother or father). Would you like to see it?" Cue me screaming at the TV "Yes of course you stupid bint"

Trifty, an 'over-performing under-achiever' is someone who goes through loads of stuff, works 12-14 hour days, over delivers in terms of results and then says: well but I didn;t manage to...An example is a friend of mine who at 58 run his first marathon in 4 hours and 2 min. Because he wanted to run it in 4 hours his second sentense to me was 'I failed.' The first was: 'I can't walk any longer.'

This my friend is an over-performing under achiever!

This too, is a mindset? There are certain people in life who will set goals, just as a marker. It does'nt matter neccessarily, if, or when, they achieve them. There are others who will always see the 2 minutes, as a complete failure. I'm one of those people, unfortunately, and always will be. Its part of who i am. I would'nt lose any sleep over it, but its a failure, all the same.

Its like playing a sport. The majority of people i find, generally take part, because its the taking part, which is important. Not me. Oh no. I take part, yes, because its social, but i'm in to win. This is the point. You're playing a game to win, and you are never going to win, if you don't have that mindset. So i fight for every point. In these respects, i wish i could have a more laid back attitude. Does this come from being a perfectionist? Why do you have to be a perfectionist? But i always say, if something is worth doing, its worth doing well.

:rotfl: I also have a good screech at QT. I love it!

Hey guess what ladies, I have finished fieldwork! Heading home on Tuesday morning, so I have a nice weekend ahead of rest and saying some goodbyes. I added up the total words of field notes written and it's almost 128,000

I was thinking about change, as there were some discussions about it a few days ago. I like to think of myself as a work-in-progress. Okay maybe I am not happy with myself now, or good enough now, but someday when I retire at a very old age, I really hope to look back on a life of encounters, challenges, changes. Even if these have not always been successes, they accumulate together as a tapestry of life. Although I think I struggle to live in the moment for this reason. In Kampala there *is* only now, and living here even for such a short time, has been a great lesson. I know that here it's so much easier to find joys here and to celebrate them, as there isn't a great deferral. Some balance is needed maybe. But I think change is a good - if I have a very strong reaction on fieldwork and something really upsets me, then I know this is the thing to explore more. I believe you have to be fundamentally 'open' to other opinions, perspectives, ways of being. If you're not - don't you lose your chance to access the amazing potentiality in this crazy and chaotic world of ours?

Hooray it is Friday. Half term begins!

Lara is coming back. How can you think you are not good enough. Crumbs.

This might give you some perspective of how much you have achieved: I have achieved one thing today i managed to get a cheap train ticket to London when i could have given up. Hooray a day of fun and sightseeing in the summer for the grand sum of £1.35!!!!

    Now do you see?

Butti did you get your dissertation in?

Great about the words - loads to analyse. And you have 80,000 for your PhD. Well done on completing the field work - just keep going and don't loose momentum. Work on your PhD only when you are inspired and make sure that you are inspired everyday at 8 am.

Agree with all points on change - I believe that we have unrestricted capacity to grow. For this to happen we need crises or 'external shocks' - otherwise we can settle into routines (which are useful when revisited regularly).

    Safe trip back, Lara.
