Hi Just wondering,
I am disappointed in your response
Seeing as you dont believe in God
I hope you dont plan to marry in the House of God in future if you believe in marriage
Marriage comes from religion remember...
It is worth bearing in mind that the marriage ceremony was actually a Pagan ceremony that was assimilated by the church only a few hundred years ago (about 700 to be fair), and pre-dates christianity by c.4000 years. Should we then start worshipping Pagan gods if we truly believe in marriage?
I think your post is inappropriate and should be removed personally.
Go preach elsewhere! Whatever your beliefs are there is never any justification in ramming them down other peoples throats!!!0 -

I don't think anyone's made the point that as a direct result of her moving in the single person council tax discount will be lost, utility bills will increase and things, such as carpets and tap washers, will wear out more quickly because of an extra person using them. So if she pays 50% of everything then there isn't a real gain to her boyfriend.0

I think your updated solution seems fair. Was going to say if you were expecting her to pay rent on your property which you had paid off it would be unfair - she is giving you money but not getting anything (investment wise) back from it, which she would if she took out her own mortgage / started out living with you with a joint mortgage. This would be fair enough in a renter/tennant situation but she is your partner and presumably you are hoping to continue life together as a partnership.
So the fact that you have decided to rent out your property and keep it as your own, and then subsequently get a joint mortgage together works for you both i.e. she's not loosing out by giving you rent money which she could be putting towards her own property, and you're getting to keep your own property which you have worked hard to pay off :T0 -
Not read all the thread, but some harsh and unnecessary first responses.
OP, well done on becoming mortgage free.
I would have absolutely no issue with paying rent if I moved into a mortgage free partner's home. I would insist on it, in fact.0 -

omg...before even letting her stay, get an agreement signed if you want to keep the house 'if' you do split up that the house is your's. i didnt do this and nw my ex is getting half the house value even though i had the house with a mortgage before he was on the horizon. new family law has to be checked out. but if you decide to let her move in a split is best 50/50 all the way, using it as a saving for another house or repairs seems logical.
