    Thanks FC...& orlao.

We've had a word with my son & he's taken it pretty hard... he's 14 & she's been here for most of what he can remember

We'll have to wait until tomorrow, if it's bad then it will happen here...not at the vets.

good luck for tomorrow... sometimes you have to hope for the best, but be prepared for the worst.

...it's only normal for your son to find this really upsetting, just as all of you will. 14 is a difficult age for a boy anyway, but it is so much better for him if he is kept informed - I can sense your instinct to protect him, but sometimes all you can do is support him through it.. and give him an occasional hug, if he will let you! (or a manly slap on the back, if he is at the 'dad, gerrofff!' stage of teenagerness!)

Have a virtual hug from all of us here too (or a manly slap on the back if you prefer!!).

    take care,

    fc x

Well, she's still here! After the 12 hours (far too long to post) we've had I'm not sure how but she is.

The bad news: According to the specialist they have been dealing with it's almost certain she has another mass cell tumour in the lymph nodes near the base of her tail & it's pressing on her colon.

The better news: Said specialist reckons that these tumours respond very well to steroids & a new cancer drug that I've forgotten the name of.

The biopsy has been done to confirm (no results yet) & she has been started on the anti cancer treatment... not sure we've done the right thing here but the vet seemed confident (ish) & pretty optimistic this treatment would work.

    Time will tell....

I know this is getting like a very bad soap opera but thanks for sticking with it :)

Big thanks for all the support, I never thought an internet forum could be of any use at all but you've proved me wrong.

Paradigm, have been checking all day for your news. Know what you mean about doing right thing or not, just what I was on about the other day.

Goodish news about the response to the steroids and cancer drugs, I know my boy has responded to the steroids with his tumour, I know it doesn't stop them growing but is slowing them down, so hopefully with the cancer drugs your girl is getting as well this should help with slowing down/stopping the growth/spread. They wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't going to work now would they so you need to keep positive. :) Word of warning though not sure what steroids she is on but my boy is on prednisolone and he is drinking like it's going out of fashion and peeing like it too, vet did warn us of that though.

Sorry getting teary now cause I know what you must be going through, but yes we are here to help and support you, your kind words over my problems with my boy have helped me, as have everyone elses words who have wished us well. and don't forget all soap operas have bad times otherwise we wouldn't keep tuning in.

Well must run now and give my boy some hugs, so I can send you some later. Speak to you soon. Hugs to you all.

Paradigm, this has been one of the longest days by far, you have really been through the ringer. Yes it is bad news, but I would be doing the very same as you are.
Sounds to me like she is fighting and is looking to you to carry on the fight for her. As you say time will tell, and I for one will pray everyday for a good outcome. Your Vet will guide you and while ever there is hope and your girl is okish (you know what i mean) she has a glimmer of hope. I would be doing just the same. I would try aanything.
As for sticking with you, we are here anytime, I know myself just how strangers have helped me with TJ.
God bless everything crossed here fo tor you all.

    Hugs Chris n TJ xx

It was your success with the steroids that made me think again!

I left out loads to keep the post short(er) but you don't know how close you are! No sleep, emergency vet at 2 am...yep it's been a toughie!

    take care,

I don't mind admitting that when it comes to illness/death in pets I'm a big wuss, I don't cope very well as you might have noticed!

At times like this I'll take hugs every time...you can shove the "manly slap on the back" where it don't shine (no offence) :)

    Thanks all, again!

Well, in that case, have a virtual big hug from me!!:D

I think you are coping ever so well... feeling upset does not mean you aren't coping, it just means you care - and that's never a bad thing.

I think you have made the right decision today - you can always change track if she does not do so well.. but it may give you some extra time with her when she has some good quality of life.

Use this time to have some nice gentle walks with her, feed her treats and take lots of piccies - altough I am guessing you have lots already - when I lost my last dog, I realised I had hardly any photos of her, and I really regretted that.

I can't add anything to what foreign correspondent has already said, but I'm sending lots of positive thoughts for you all and really hope for a good outcome :)
