Awww !!!!!!, my girl has to have her tail removed!

She's got a Mast cell tumour & because it's on her tail there isn't enough skin etc to just remove the tumour & surrounding tissue!

Not nice but it could have been much worse as I have tried to tell my wife, she's pretty upset.

Still a bummer though.

  • ah no - still as you say could have been worse - if she has to lose any body part, its probably the very best part to lose.. hope she makes a speedy recovery!

" years ago TJ has a mass cell melanoma on his bottom. We were very lucky we caught it very quick. It was stage 1 turning in parts to stage 2. As i said we were very very lucky had i not taken TJ to the Vets lords knows what would heve bee the outcome. It just looked like a tiny bite that kept bleeding. Within 3 days of us finding it, it was removed. We were given the news that al had been taken away and then had the agonys of waiting nearly 6 months for the all clear.
It seems to me that you have found the nasty thing and you are getting it sorted. I wont say dont worry because you will, (its only human) But rememeber you are doing the best you can to make her better. I can see plenty of cuddles and not too many titbits coming her way.
Please keep us informed on how things are going wont you.
I hope and pray all goes well for you all.

I'm only worried in case it's spread but, as FC has said, if she has to lose a part then the tail is the best choice. Better to lose the tail than lose her!

As she's a DDB she'll come out of it looking like a big ugly Boxer :)

    Thanks for the replies

sorry to hear your girl has a problem, hope she recovers well from the surgery.

But as for looking like a big ugly boxer, my big boxer looks gorgeous without his tail (was docked at birth).

:) I meant she's big & ugly, in the nicest way, not that Boxers are ugly.

:D Yes they are in a "they're so ugly they're kinda cute" way.

The short tail will confuse me... that's not hard though!

She's in at 9.30 on Tuesday & the tumour has to be sent away to "grade" it.

Apparently it's a very common cancer in dogs & the higher the grade the more chance it has of spreading!

She'll be ok with the op, it's the test results that I'm a tad worried about...
