I jsut realised when writing my christmas cards, I write in my address book in pencil so that I can change thing easily when people move or get a new phone; it also means no running or smudging of ink
does that class as old style?

Sometimes things are just such a habit that you don't think twice about it do you? I've been staying with family last week and felt quite guilty to be putting peelings etc into their bin...
I like the tip about using a pencil in an address book, mine is in such a mess!
I've just remmebered another thing that I do: use old envelopes as book markers, they come in handy for making notes as you read. (Recipe books are a particular favourite of mine!)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I re-use clingfilm! I use it to wrap cheeses or sandwich meat in the fridge, and then, when the food is gone, I put the clingfilm in the drawer to use next time! The clingfilm I've got round a lump of cheddar at the moment must be on it's 4th or 5th use!
I also swill out jars of sauce to get the dregs out. Also do that with cans of soup.
I pick the bottle with the most in at the supermarket. With things like squash and washing up liquid, there can often be quite a variation between levels of fullness! So I choose carefully!
My mum had an awesome one when us kids were little. When a double sized bed sheet wore out, she'd cut out the worn section and sew it back together to make a single sized sheet.
Then when a single sheet wore out, that was turned into pillowcases!Because it's fun to have money!

Can't do that so much now as the bed linen is not as sturdy as it was then; easier to dry--which is lovely :j--but not up to as much 'recycling'

My grans & muvva have done this with sheets too, & sometimes the pillow cases became 'sheets' again for a new baby's pram! The worse tho, was when the double/single sheet was cut thru the middle length-ways, the long outside edges sewn together (& the cut sides hemmed of course) to become a 'new' bed sheet. That seam down the middle of the bed was the poor man's version of Princess & the Pea

my daughters cot sheets were all big ones cut down, I had truned sheets as a child, and am still using some bedding that is at least 4 generations old. Though to be fair it is extremely high quality hand drawn linen. The tk maxx sheets on the kids beds are unlikely to last in the same wayPeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I can remember my Mum doing the sheet thing too - she was born in 1923 and was a teenager/young adult during the war, so make do and mend was her motto. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

We moved many times all over the country, and after the first few times of having to change every contact number for schools/playgroups, doctor, dentist etc. etc., as well as all the usual changes of address among our friends, I took to using a card index box instead and have found it really useful. It isn't portable though, obviously!
