I always swish the bottle of washing up liquid with some water when it gets near to finishing to make sure every bit is used ,but then my kids nickname for me is 'frau frugal',I just hate waste in any shape or form.growing up during and after WW2 with rationing, using everything became second nature to almost everyone. My Mum and my generation were the recyclers of their day.It was called 'making ends meet ' in those days, and things just did not get thrown away as they are today.
Yesterday afternoon one of my grandsons was peckish and as he had already eaten his after school snack I said why not have an apple from the bowl.Henry replied 'Mum bought those at the weekend so they must be past their sell-by-date by now Granny'
I won't write what I replied but just let's say I peeled it, and sliced it, and he ate it, without a murmur.
Sell-by-date indeed, its a blooming apple, what are kids being taught in schools today:(0 -

Could you also do this in winter though? Also how long would you leave it in the pot and do you have to water it?
Thanks.Yesterday afternoon one of my grandsons was peckish and as he had already eaten his after school snack I said why not have an apple from the bowl.Henry replied 'Mum bought those at the weekend so they must be past their sell-by-date by now Granny'

I hope that you can teach him otherwise.0 -
What a great thread! I didn't realise how many of these things I already did and its given me lots of new ideas to put into practice too.
I've only just started reusing herbal tea bags and I squish the toilet roll to make it last longer. I always reuse water bottles and always have a bottle on me where ever I go.
I've recently move to a house with just a shower, I had lots of bubble bath which I have been putting into an empty hand wash dispenser and using it in the shower.
As a dental nurse I love it when the sales rep comes around and gives us samples of toothpaste, mouthwash etc. Our boss always will gives us a few tubes to take home. These are perfect for traveling and since I live on my own they last me ages.February - TLW #16 2/16

I can't bear throwing things away....
Last lot of DS (20) clothes that were thrown away yielded the usual rags for cleaning, but there were some underpants with the thick elastic waistbands that are trendy at the moment. I cut them off and kept them as giant elastic bands. I used one lot to hold a bundle of garden canes together.

I use ecoballs. I hardly ever use washing detergent now. I wouldn't switch back now. I find my darks stay dark and the clothes come out just as clean. The only issue I have is I find my son's t shirts still smell a bit sweaty under the arms sometimes, but my friend who uses a brand name washing powder has the same problem.
Eco balls save me a fortune both in washing powder and conditioner. I don't use conditioner at all now and if I wash with a normal detergent the clothes feel really rough compared to when I use the balls.
I originally tried ecoballs when my daughter had a re-occurring problem with sore lady bits. Eco balls have completely solved the problem It seems it was something in the washing powder that was causing her a problem.
One thing with washballs is there is no perfume smell so if you like your clothes smelling perfumy (I hate it) then you will miss that. If you wash at night I would get the sort with a foam ring around them because the plain plastic ones are noisy.0 -
Caught myself emptying the 'teadust' from the bottom of a box of teabags into my compost box last night.... is that a step too far do you think?:eek::eek::)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.
