Just thought I'd mention an OS money saving thing that the OH has been doing the last couple of weeks.
He has been doing well quitting smoking on the patches and had been buying niquitine clear from Boots as it's the only patch which agrees with him and for the whole of january they reduced the price to about £6.50 (from £12-13). However they only reduced the price on the step 1 (largest patch) and not on Step 2. So he has carried on buying the step 1 patches and cut them in half to make 2 smaller patches. he wears one of these small patches now instead of the Step 2 ones and is having no trouble staying off the fags.2015 wins: Jan: Leeds Castle tickets; Feb: Kindle Fire, Years supply Ricola March: £50 Sports Direct voucher April: DSLR camera June: £500 Bingo July: £50 co-op voucher0 -
I save the aluminium containers from the 1" deep candle tealights once they've burned out and mush up all our old slivers of soap in them with a drop of water.. The containers make ideal little moulds for tiny new soaps from these remains, as I can never find guest soaps which are small enough to fit on the tiny wash hand basin in our downstairs cloakroom.0

When my mother died 15 years ago, I inherited all her stock of darning wool.
With some of this I have just done a running repair on DH's woollen gloves which he inherited from his father 23years ago. How OS is that?

That is such a good idea! Why haven't I thought of it??? You could also use them for minor painting or glueing jobs etc.
When bottles of ketchup etc. are nearly running out I stand them upside down on their tops so what's left all slides down towards the neck - amazing how much is left sticking to the sides.
In the cupboard where I keep tools I've got jars of odd nails, tacks, screws etc. which I've found lying around. It really is surprising how often they come in useful.
If I take rubber bands off packaging or something I always wrap them round the door handle in the kitchen - that way they're always to hand and don't tie themselves together in drawers etc. (My mother always does this - somehow got into the habit).
Will add more as I think of them . . . I know, sad isn't it.0 -
Not particulary money saving, but certainly saves time and frustration.
When I've got sheets or curtains to fold, I drop them over the stair side of the bannister. This gives me a long drop to fold them and I can manage it on my own0 -
I squeeze every loo roll so that the cardboard creases. It does not roll as easy and I feel that it encourages people to use less sheets!0

Over the landing bannister is my ideal fplace for drying my kingsize duvet covers! They fit exactly - one of the best things I noticed when I moved here a year ago :T.
I'm another poster with a tiny sink in the downstairs loo. I'm a member of a quiz site and we often have meet ups in hotels/motels around Staffs..I've been collecting all the small handsoaps, and also the ones when I've been on coach tours with my mother. If you hide the toiletries in your suitcase, the cleaners always put fresh out each day! Same goeas for the tea/coffee/sugar supplies as well- always come back home again with a ready supply! .
