I water down the shampoo etc, replace it with cheapy brands. I have the tube squishers on the toothpaste. Nobody eats the crusts so they are made into breadcrumbs and use for meatloaf. Tea bags I use again for black saturns malt loaf, then they go in the compost.
I have gradually been getting most things over to shop brands makes. Except for heinz salad cream! I've got a copy for heinz tomato sauce so might give that a go!
I put the soap 'stubs' into a washing tablet bag and hang by the outside tap or over the bath tap.
We have one of those water sucker things for a fish tank so will see if I can get the water outside from the bath with it!
Mr HQ only has good coffee, but I buy some granules from lidls that look the same and replace about a third - he can tell the difference if I replace more than that (trial and error!!).
A butter dish means that nobody can tell what make it is if its unwrapped when they see it!
I only use shop brand flour and cannot tell the difference except in my purse.
Stardrops has replaced most of the cleaners I had before, I put a bit of zoflora as when for the bathroom and toilet floors.
I make takeaways at home, i use the copycat sauces/recipes for mcdonalds, burger king and kfc.
Squishy bananas are made into a fruit loaf.
I was giving a lovely pasta storage tin, makes my value pasta look quite posh!
I say yes to all freebies whether I want them or not - say no and people don't like to ask you again!
I reuse jiffy bags (hopefully from freebies sent to me) for my ebay and amazon sales. I save bubble wrap and brown paper - if I haven't got a jiffy bag it gets wrapped in that!0 -
Where can I get Stardrops? Shops near me are Sommerfield, Sainsburys, Co-Op.
I don't know what other MSER's do, but as my boss has another business where he works for charity - installing water systems in African villages - I can't bear to waste water if I can help it. During the night we never flush the loo (for wees) - less noise plus there's only 2 of us and it gets flushed 1st thing in the morning - 9 litres per flush is a lot of water that those villages don't even get to see. We have a save-a-flush installed and a water meter. Plus I always collect water from rain and when I run the tap to get it warm, using this to water plants etc later. I also steam vegetables when cooking say potatoes, to ensure I don't use 2 pans - saves electric and water...MFW #185

It seems strange how the thought disgusts most peoplee yet they are happy to wade about in the faeces of OTHER animals with a smile on their faces...0 -
Acutally I am being totally serious. Each year the UK dumps millions upon millions of tons of solid waste out at sea. Why shouldn't it be put to better use? Dumping it at sea, excuse the pun, seems hardly environmentally friendly.
Yes, I agree with you on that. I remember seeing a programme once about somehwere in Japan where they made sewage waste into something or other. (can't remember what - but think it was some kind of plastic???)
But as far as compost heaps go, what liz said is quite true - vegetarian poo only!0 -
Someone my parents knew used to poo in a bucket mix it with water and use it on his allotment. I would be wary of the dog poo though because of that toxicaris, that if a dog isn't wormed can make humans blind - think it also applies to cat poo.
I know theres a woman who goes on tv to advise people about recycling and she recycles her own waste - a sort of coal bunker in a shed, I couldn't tell you too much about it - as they went to lift the lid - i was off - well I was eating my tea!!0 -
Eagerlearner, try asda or wilkinsons or morrisons for stardrops.0

Back to the poo subject, I agree with Amosworks, we should recycle it, in France they have outdoor latrines that stay in the ground and rot down. Might have probs with the neighbours and the local council...
Incidentally, weeing in the compost heap is a good accellerator too!0
