When I get down to the bottom of the shampoo bottle, i.e. you have to wait ages with the bottle up-side-down before any comes out, I just add some water and give the bottle a good shake. This usually last for a good few hair washes. It's amazing how much water you can add and still get a decent lather.

Don't do this more than once though, cos homeopathy doesn't apply to shampoos! :rotfl:

I do that too - kill 2 birds with 1 stone - I find you can use them several times on your face if you hang them somewhere in between - then I clean the tiles with them whilst I'm showering!

Also, if they dry out (as face wipes tend to do), you just need to add a bit of water to each one as you're using it to reactivate it.
  • My old mum used to cut tights into 3" long sections and pop them over the dogs head at mealtimes - to keep her ears out of her food and water!!! saved us washing/combing her ears all the time! (The dogs, that is, not mums...:rotfl: )

That has got to be the best use for old sandwich bags so far!

I try not to buy sandwich bags. Every time I go to the supermarket for veg/bread rolls etc, I pick up a handful of those bags and use them instead.

Works for face washes, hand washes and shower gel too.

Apparently, if you use those bath lily things, you don't need to use as much soap. I use a loofah mitt (works out cheaper than body scrubs) myself so can't vouch for this one personally.

    What a fantastic idea.
Earlier was mention of microwaving coffee and tea GROSS! But IF I have any filter coffee left over I make ice cubes with it so i can have an iced coffee or a coffee vodka milkshake (rare treat)

Used Coffee grounds can be put on the compost heap.

Well you folks, so many fantastic tips here!! It's taken me hours to read it from start to finish, but I am glad to know there are lots more mad people out there.

The one that made me laugh the most was the lady who combines old lipstick ends to create her own unique colours. Had me in stitches on the floor.

My only tip is I switch cookers, rings, ovens etc. off a few minutes before the end of the cooking time and let the heat already there finish the cooking, but it's best to extend the cooking time a few mins extra when you do this anyway. IE, switch it off 5 mins before but leave it 10 mins before you take it out.

There are deer near where I live so when I walk the dog I scoop a bit of deer poo up if I see it lying around and into the compost heap it goes when I get home. Excellent compost accelerator!
Why not collect the dogs also?? In fact dare I go a step further and say why don't you curl yours out on the compost heap also? It would save you water in flushing so much too!

These are great guys. I'm wondering how many of them i'll be able to convince my OH to do :D

My mother used to do the washing sandwich bags out. I REALLY used to hate doing the washing up because of the damn things. None of my friends did it so it's kind of fun to hear that so many of you do it too!

When I make HM chips i leave the potato skin on (scrubbed, of course) to save time and producing more rubbish (live in flat with no space for composting). Perhaps I'm effectively saving money by using the whole potato instead of chucking away the peelings...:p
