They should be able to change the set up on their AOL router to connect to PlusNet then.

well ordered the plusnet router, so hopefully should be more straight forward with instructions.

but come to think about it the user name should be:
    admin

password = password and should be able to set doh!!!

oh well only £5 postage i paid.

anyone know what router plusnet offer? should i get them to continue their netgear or plusnet one.

    feel an idiot now!

so if i tell my parents to switch on laptop and wirless router, connect ethernet cable:

    1) enter 192.168.0.1

    2) user = admin
    3) password = password

    and then what?

If they are receiving a PlusNet router then full log in and set up instructions are included with it. The set up details were also given on the link in post 36.
The only additional info they need will be their PlusNet username and password chosen at sign up.

    thanks

parents got my cousin to help out

anyone reading this for reference from aol to plusnet, using existing hardware:

    1) turn on computer
    2) turn on router
    3) connect ethernet cable
    4) reset router with a small pen etc.
    5) wait until the router has finished flashing ensure it turns green (otherwise there is a seperate issue)
    6) open up internet explorer
    7) 192.168.0.1
    8) user = admin
    9) password = password

10)should pop open an auto wizard then for user and password use the one sent via email and set up i.e. xxxxxxxxxx@plusdsl.net
11)password the one you chose on ordering

    12) follow the wizard through and check status in the end

that should be it for internet connection, try bbc.co.uk for example

    13) go back to netgear router settings - wireless settings
make sure name SSID something is chosen which is name of the wireless
security is setup with a password

    thanks all, especially macman
