Does this apply to people who have small kids who are being referred to Flexible New Deal ? I dont have any childcare if I am going to be forced to go on a four week work placement
I believe I am right in saying if they are over seven then yes you do need to do the work placement. But thats if you are a single parent and you would get help with childcare
If you have a partner the age is not so important and they will be expected to look after the kids while you complete the placementThe World come on.....0 -
Hi
I have one under 7 and one over 7. How can my partner look after the kids whilst i complete the placement when he is at work himself (shiftwork)0 -

I am assuming that by saying :
that he is considering signing off to aviod it. Its a reasonable assumption.
yeah, i can see how it gives that impression i should have read it more carefully. i guess my instinct was that they were thinking in a similar way that i do in that if i get a job, will i have to go straight back on the course i was on if the job ends.
we shouldnt assume them considering signing off is due to laziness. it may well be just because they dislike the idea of going on the course so much.0 -

I was on Contribution based JSA and am now signing for my NI credits, I cant understand why I have been told I need to embark on flexible new deal when they know I have a small child at home (Apologies for hijacking the thread)0 -

To be honest the real answer is that yes I think you would need to do this work placement. However your new deal provider may agree with you and postpone or cancel the work placement though I think its unlikely
If its causing you anxiety (and I am not trying to be clever) I would consider signing off. You only need 30 years of National Insurance these days to qualify for a full pension so if its causing hassle is it worth it?

When your out of work that long you are doing something wrong, so you are made to do other things.
Don't like?
sign off or get a job.

the problem with these courses is they rarely get people jobs. they treat people either like criminals or like naughty little kids. that is why it can feel like a punishment rather than help. that is why some people feel like they are seen as criminals because they are out of work. people often hate getting sent on work placements as it feels like you are working for nothing even though you are getting jsa, hb, ctb. you also feel like you are being used and in most cases you are just being used.
that is a blunt truth when you say sign off or get a job. however one thing that is unfair and commonly said in the forums is that people who want to avoid these courses are lazy or work shy. in most cases that is incorrect. it is fair to call someone workshy if they dont want to get a job but not because they dont want to do a course that is very unlikely to help and is often as i have described.0 -

How long does it take from the initial meeting in the Jobcentre to actually starting on the New Deal programme ?0

I think the idea of the work placement is to get people back into the groove of working again, getting up early, getting the bus etc etc so they don't end up psychologically welfare dependent
Its only four weeks so its not that big a dealThe World come on.....0
