how often can they make you attend???

    what is the schedule ?

are you allowed to say can't make that day or give a reason you cant attend

    ie. gas engineer coming?? illness?

any guidance on the web??? --

what stage are you at? if you are at the 6 to 12 month stage you see an advisor at the jobcentre usually once a month but i guess they could be awkward and make you see them more often.
at the 12 month stage you get refered to an outside provider. you get assigned to a personal career coach. i have just started this and have been told i have to see mine once a fortnight. i also have to attend any courses she thinks i need. this could be cv's, applicition forms, training etc. mine has told me that i will be doing a jobsearch session once a week. at the moment i am only committed to an induction on thursday from 9.30am to 12.30pm and my next meeting with her is on the 13th. i believe meetings last 30 minutes. at some point on the course you have to do a minimum of 4 weeks on a work placement. mine seems extremely keen to get me out on one as soon as possible even though the leaflets say this is meant to happen towards the end of the course. i suspect this is because they only get paid when we get a job so the sooner they get us on a placement, the sooner we may get a job and therefore they get their money sooner.
be careful what you say and do as they have the power to sanction you and if they do sanction you you still have to keep doing the course. you dont get sacked off like on the old new deal.

my pcc told me if i ever couldnt make an appointment that i should phone her and she would try to rearrange it. i suspect they will ask why you cant make it and if they didnt think your reason was good enough it is possible they might sanction you.

which prison do you work at....

    such nonsense..

the booklet i got sent says i am allowed 10 sick days and 10 holidays during the 12 month course. how it works exactly i dont know yet. i hope i will find out in the induction on thursday. my pcc is already getting stroppy coz i told her that i have 3 long weekends away booked. one in may, one in july and one in august. she said employers wont like that, we will have to have a talk about it next time. i will just try and say look i am entitled to the holidays and i booked and paid for them several months ago before i knew about this course.

If you know so much, why come here and ask, and be insulting! You think that people don't use illness as an excuse everyday! Get into the real world, attend your meetings (which are part of the deal for claiming the benefit n the first place), and stop trying to find excuses not to work!

i agree people do use illness as an excuse. however there can often be an assumption that everyone is faking all of the time. personally i am praying i get swine flu sometime when i am due to go in.

Oh, you mean those "losers" who actually have jobs?

Have jobs yes. Any good at them, no. Not from my experience anyway.

    Well well.

I came here to respond to the posts made by "Unemployed&proud", along with the other alias involved.

I see the posts have been removed.

What a refreshing change! Perhaps MSE has finally rid themselves of this work shy troll! I take back my recent comments about the "spirit" of this board.

Anyway, to the OP, longshot, which I assume is not a comment on how suitable he is for work, I say you have had good advice.

You questioned whether you could fake a illness or a "gas visit", then insulted the JC staff, then insulted those posters here to help you.

You can't get away with this and I think you know it. You want the benefit? Then you have to jump through the required hoops, some of those are complying with flexiible new deal.

Reading your views about the JC, and the general opinion of new deal, I feel you are suited to each other. I grin at the thought!

    Good luck.

this person you mention does talk some crap at times but not all of the time. they certainly have their own unique view on things. however i have never had a problem with their posts. i dont think they harm the forum at all. what harms the forum is people not being allowed to give their opinion whether stupid or not. i think the reduction in freedom of speech thanks to certain members complaining to the mods all the time is very sad for this forum. the mods being so easily influenced is also sad.

Huh? The OP was rude. Insulting. Hated the JC+. Hated anyone who disagreed with their opinions.

Who can forget the crackpot scheme to get some young pregnant girl to live at the at their place (which was a 1 bedroom flat) so they would get housing benefit?

    Are you for real?
harms the forum is people not being allowed to give their opinion whether stupid or not

There are very vunerable people here who might take some "stupid advice" and actually act on it. The board, MSE and the regulars have a duty to expose this at every turn.
I think the reduction in freedom of speech thanks

Woah, you are out of your depth now.

There is no freedom of speech here. you want freedom of speech you set up your own webite on stand on a street corner with a megaphone.

Here, there are rules (that you and unemployed&stupid) agreed to at sign up and continually agree to when you post. There are mods who can delete your post, ban you, restrict you.

lets get one thing straight. i totally understand how some people dont like what they post. it is sad that those people cant just put up with it.
i dont recall ever seeing them post anything that was so insulting that it deserved being removed. i may have a higher tolerance level than some though.
regarding the young girl pregnant thing. yes i agree its stupid. do i think posts like that should be laughed at? yes. do i think they should be removed? possibly. do i think they are bad enough that the poster should be banned? no.
there maybe people who would follow stupid advice here but this is an adults forum. ultimately people should only post here to get some support and ideas what to do. they shouldnt take anyones advice here as gospel. you are right when you say expose silly comments but i think someone has to say something very bad to warrant it being removed or certainly for it to warrant them being banned.
yes the mods are in charge and impose whatever rules they wish. however i think to run a good forum you should always try to make it as free as reasonably possible. personally i have found comments in the past that slag off the unemployed quite disgraceful at times but i have not once complained to the mods and i would not want those posters to be banned.
  • Yes DonnaJunkie lets not forget the excellent idea of the mandatory four week work placement, I can tell you that is sorting out the men from the boys.
