Aww thanks for the name drop, I feel properly in the community now!
Yesterday was an NSD as we had a huge deadline and I was in the office for about 13 hours working like a madwoman and had no time to do anything but eat my packed lunch.
Today wont be, as I got an email early this morning from my best friend who learned (on her birthday, none the less!) that she is to be made very unexpectedly redundant. Its crushing as she has worked extreemely hard for her job and they had just given her a huge (£7k!) payraise, so she was sort of set up. So Im going to meet her out for a quick drink tonight, lord knows she will need it!
OH also facing a big work decision (take it at karp pay or leave it), I thought the reccession was over...Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000Debt free as of 1 October, 2010
Taking my frugal life on the road!0 -
Just a quickie as am at work and it's not my lunch break yet. Typed out a FABULOUS post last night and then lost it and then couldn't be bovered re-doing (But would still like to say 'Amazing result Urg123 - hope you are VERY proud of yourself - well done for all your hard work' Check out her Sig!!)
Yesterday wasn't a NSD as made a sneaky purchase on Ebay (Didn't need it. Wanted it. Wanted it real bad. Got it at a bargain £3 when I've seen others go for £29 so as its Vintage and will become antique its actually an investment!)
Not sure about today - might go and buy some fruit tonight
Have bought Travel Insurance today but it's for a business trip next month and work are re-imbursing so I've decided it doesn't count. HOWEVER I earned £5 cashback!!! DING DONG. Hmmmm mind you have already spent it as I've sponsored my cousin in Race for Life. Darn it. Defo not a NSD today - may as well go and get that fruit.
I seriously have no objection giving money to charity (well certain charities) but I am finding it increasingly hard. Loads of people do Race for Life now and also found out that another family member is running a marathon. What's awful is you go on their 'Donation Page' and find that every one else has been donating £20-£30!! and I feel darn tight only donating £5. I've spent £54 (OMG) on charity donations (Including a charity night) so far this year, but I still have a marathon and the rest of the year to go! Good god I wish I hadn't totalled it all up! Ah well it is all for good causes and I only give to Charities that mean something to me or I think are really worthwhile. Perhaps it will rule out some of my badness
What does everyone else give when they are sponsoring someone? If you don't mind me asking
Not a quickie really - but I type reeeeeallly fast. Oh guess what? It's lunchtime....0 -

Can you give yourself a little treat today Slowly?
My idea of a treat is to get home, draw the curtains, PJ's on and a darn good film. Bit silly really and anti-social, but do what floats your boat. Cheer yourself up. You deserve it:D0 -

I always feel guilty when the sponsor forms come around, especially the ones from school. I don't like asking anybody for money, it just doesn't seem right. I normally just put down £5 for each child/person. Luckily I don't get asked that often! Would like to give more but really get annoyed when people asked me. If I want to contribute I will, don't make me feel guilty about not doing it.
 Just had a bit of a panic. Received the daily update email and went to click on one of the posting links. Must have clicked on the unsubscribe link by mistake. Then got message saying this thread had been removed from my subscribe list. Panic!!
Took ages to find it again. Have now resubscribed. Phew!:D
Wouldn't want to miss all the fun....:)
Claiming NSD 8 today, 4 in a row :TLife is knowing which bridges to burn and which bridges to build!

was going to be NSD number 6 for me today but try as i might it aint gonna happen. started having coughing fit on way to work (am getting over the lurgy from Easter) and was forced to buy a 38p bottle of water from shop. If you re-arrange the letters in C-A-R-P [or K], you'll get another word for brown, smelly stuff
I left a message for my boss once, saying there was a load of carp in the fridge at work, & he asked me where the fish were :rotfl:
Ideas for a 9 yr-old.
Physical..- tennis & cricket season is almost upon us so bat & ball against the shed wall or an unofficial game in the park/garden.
- keepie-uppies with either a football or bat & ball.
- french cricket.
- skipping--just show him a trailer of The HayMaker in training
- pond-dipping in a river or duck pond; if you don't mind a bit of expense, THESE are pretty good all year round.
- keep an eye in the local press for council-run play schemes during school holidays.
- french skipping--used to be more for girls, but it's where you have a really long piece of strong elastic & tie the ends together. Two people put the lackie around their ankles & a third does a bit of fancy foot-work, then it's repaeted by moving the lackie up to the knees, thigh etc. One girl at my junior school actually got up to armpits & the teachers forbade here to try neck :rotfl:
- again for girls--a make-over/ clothes swap/ fashion show.
- build an obstacle course using dining room chairs, table, cushions etc to crawl under, climb over, move around the house in a specific way. For example, backwards Tuesday 10-11am, sideways Saturday all day etc.
- indoor picnic, like an outdoor one but in the lounge
- find out how many Dr Who's there have been.
- identify all the makes of vehicles in Transformers.
- fantasy football/rugby/cricket team with stats to prove why they're on your team
- take an old pair of tights or similar & cut off approx 6-8"; in the toe I]or tie a knot in the leg & turn inside out[/I sprinkle some grass seed, then a little bit of compost & fill with sawdust I]or use all compost[/I & secure the end, making sure the contents are packed in tight. Use a little elastic band or bit of cotton to make a little 'pimple' half-way between the two ends, then use felt tips to draw on facial features using the 'pimple' as a nose! Soak the "head" well, use a yoghurt pot or similar as a 'neck' & leave the 'head' in a warm, sunny spot. Dampen as required & sit back to watch the 'hair' grow
Might work with cress but haven't tried it, but I've seen empty egg shells in egg cups with cress as hair.
- if you can trust them with a camera, keep a photo-diary.
- you can only use eg 7 words at a time, so if they want a sandwich, it would be " I shall have some cheese ones please" & you then say "Would you like cucumber in it too". You make the rules!
- look out for those 'paint your own mug' kits so they can make one/some for father's day [June!] on b'day/crimbo gifts; often found in pound shops so not a lot of monetary out-lay.
- making something like a photo-frame with bits of pasta stuck on a cereal box cardboard 'frame' & painted, to give to grandma or auntie etc. with a photo of them/ they've taken or drawn.
- good old favourites like making jewellry from bits of macaroni threaded onta an old shoe lace
Pasta can be coloured by soaking it in water with food colouring added, then putting a single layer on an oven tray in an oven you've just used but not switched on IYKWIM.
- hm play dough or salt dough, then painted.
- papier mache on a blown-up balloon, then turned into a:- trinket bowl, money box [can be painted to look like a football!], face mask.
- a kite! old carrier bag & a few bits of garden cane.
- make the sandwiches for the picnic using cookie cutters & feed the extra bits to the ducks.
- mix some cornflour with a bit of water--it's weird stuff that will puddle like syrup on a hard surface, but run like liquid if you try to pick it up!
- get some white flowers--carnations are very good for this one--then put one into a pot with eg red food colour in the water, another with blue, another green, etc & watch what happens. If you use a hefty wallop of colouring, it also works on celery sticks!
Coffeeholic--meant to say earlier, have you considered a pre-payment certificate for your prescriptions?Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
