:mad::mad: Why do some peolpe feel the need to sit in the middle lane on a motoway and chug along at 60MPH when the inside lane is empty??!:mad:

If the road is quiet and you come across a middle-lane hog you can have a fun game of 'Satellites'. Overtake the car in the outside lane, then pull into the inside lane and slow down, allowing the middle-lane hog to overtake you. Repeat ad infinitum or nauseam.0

:rotfl::T
Never thought about that.
Normally I only ever "undertake" in my company car and if the hard shoulder is empty. 10 years ago, maybe 1 in 3 drivers would flash their lights in disapproval. Now when I undertake (safely I may add) no-one ever flashes. They just accept it like the gormless idiots they are.The man without a signature.0 -
These are the same idiots that you encounter on a dual carriage ways in a morning on your way to work.
They drive in the right (not overtaking or going any faster than those in he left). The only reason they are in the right is because they want to turn right about five miles down the road. :mad:My farts hospitalize small children0 -
Love the "satellites" idea, though it might induce some unwanted road rage...
I've been driven by several people who do this, and there seem to be 2 completely separate causes: "Fear" and "Entitlement".
The fear is from the significant number of drivers who are terrified of motorways and hate changing lanes - the middle lane is the safest and simplest option for them.
"Entitlement" is from the driver who reasons that - because they are going at the speed limit (obviously this doesn't apply to your example of someone doing 60) - nobody else should ever overtake them, so they have no need to move into the "slow" lane. They typically take pride in making things difficult for all of the law-breakers who are speeding.
Sadly, neither type is likely to change their behaviour, no matter what other drivers do...0 -

For the same reason that they slow to 25 for a speed camera in a 40 zone.
Or slow down for an average speed check camera

why not - THEY arent breaking the law are they?0

how? they are proceeding down the motorway within the speed limit, they are in the middle lane which means they are passing drivers in the inside lane and leaving the outside lane for overtaking within the speed limit.
as long as they arent causing an obstruction (which doesnt mean YOU are getting frustrated) then what is your problem?0 -

The whole point of "middle lane hogs" are that they drive in the middle lane irrespective of traffic conditions or overtaking traffic. They reduce a 3 lane highway to 2 lanes because they are too selfish and stupid to move over. This causes bunching and queuing as drivers wait to overtake them. The man without a signature.0 -
so they are supposed to speed up to seventy? that means if you overtake them then you are exceeding the speed limit? so if everyone in the middle lane is doing seventy - then the cops have a field day? read your highway code again. most of the problems are caused by people who think that ANYONE doing under the speed limit is a road hog.
there was an interesting study done by a university and calculating the speed limits and congestion they concluded that LOWERING the speed limit would reduce congestion.
why? because they thought that higher speeds made drivers more impatient and caused more traffic hold ups!0
