I called into our closest farm shop on Friday; the savoy for 78p is larger than the ones in MrS, the garlic was 7p more, potatoes 33p a kilo & the local rhubarb was £1:99/kg IIRC. With five parsnips & three onions, the bill was £3:32 but the problem is it is a bit out of the way to use more than once a week; by the time you've added on the petrol to get there  & the food itself doesn't last that long, you can't really 'stock up'. It saddens me that I have to consider price over locally produced, but when you are on a really tight budget, what else can you do?
This is the problem I have, I would love to buy local but there is nowhere 'local' to buy it. The 'farmers' markets are overpriced and miles away. We do have local box scheme but they are a bit inconvenient - you have to order by friday tea time for the next week and I'm not that good at planning ahead:D
Trouble is A$da is 5 minutes walk away and I'm also used to paying A1di super six prices.
Will update sig when I manage to work out what I spent yesterday.0 -
I'm on target so far not exactly sure what we have spent but we are within budget i take £55 out each week in cash and once it's gone it's gone. However what ever is left plus any 1p's 2p's and 5p's i get goes in the change jar which i will cash in now and again for groceries. I have about £3 left but need some dog food later the change will go in the jar as I take shopping money out on Mondays.
So £55 spent so far.Grocery challenge Jan 270.27/200:eek:

Done my weekly shop. I spent £2.90 at the butchers (it's ages since I've been to the proper butchers....I should go more often!), £1.69 at thortons and £11.18 at Mr T. Don't think I'm doing too badly this month. Have a freezer packed full of food, and I'm trying to cut done on alcohol so hoping to be under my rather generous budget this month!Mortgage-free wannabe 2025 £571/30000

Wasn't planning on spending today, but DH had to get petrol this morning before heading north to Leeds, so may nip out and get some milk and veg to hopefully make tomorrow a NSD.
Pleased with our (relative lack of) spending this month...we are living out of the freezer and cupboards as much as we can to get our supplies down a bit...can't believe how much we have in the house!
Enjoy the rest of Sunday...what a lovely day again!

Russetred that's brilliant news- also it might be worth speaking to your local carer group- they are very good at offering help and support and will put you in touch with other people in the same position as you and support times where you can let off steam etc. Hope things stay good
Well it's a lovely day again today and wandered down to Aldi, stocked up on loads of fruit and veg, a patio cleaner, some weed killer, a bottle of cider and some other bits and bobs and it came to £16.19 will update my signature in a mo.
Off to put something in the slow cooker!
Enjoy the rest of this beautiful dayFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
89p spent today! Packet of tomatoes from Tesco that are on offer (had to hunt for a decent pack as they were all green/orange). Also got a cucumber in Lidl. I did pick up some milk to replace what i've used (i'm cat sitting for my sister this weekend) but have realised that I didn't get any for myself when I go home tonight, so will either have to stop and get some, or scrounge some from what I bought. Doh!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Spent £48 in Mr S - more than I'd hoped but I forgot my Nectar card and so there's £2.50 I could have saved - never mind - next time.
Will update sig in a minute but I think I'm almost on target - need to stay that way too!
Russetred - fab news! I'm glad you're getting a bit of a hand - just a bit of time to yourself will help I'm sure. Don't forget that we're here if you need us!0 -
£2.25 in Netto (on Marmite, yummy) & £3.72 in Lidl, mainly on cereal bars for the OH. Gutted because they'd been reduced to £1 from £1.45 - the first time they've ever been reduced in the year that I've been buying them - and they only had one box of his favourite type in! I'd planned to buy an entire tray if only they'd had them!
Also picked up 2 bottles of Blue Reef rum & coconut for when I make my rum punch for summer parties as it was reduced to £3.99 for this weekend only in Netto. I'm not planning to take it out of the grocery budget but then again I'm not sure which budget it is coming out of so it may end up being deducted from the total... if there's any left of course.Mortgage: [STRIKE]08/13 £28,896.49[/STRIKE] 01/18 £00 -
Hi everyone - firstly HUGE apologies for not posting for ages but I've been caught up in other things, trying to sort out my new allotment, sowing seeds and dealing with other things that I won't bore you all with. I have however been reading all the posts so hugs to those that need them. I've also still been keeping a note of my spends so my total has been kept up to date.
Dinner tonight is Roast pork and all the trimmings, had friends over for Dinner last night so got plenty of puds etc left over.
Does anyone know what the Aldi super 6 is going to be this week, they haven't updated the Website yet.;)
Have a good day everyone.:D"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.
