    Hi all

    Here's the story so far.

Ok so Sky offered us a deal that would save us a fair bit of cash per month so my misses signs up.

    All goes well until today

    Sky gets installed

misses rings up to cancel virgin this is where it all goes pear shaped

now back in January she decides that we cant afford the package we are on and lowers the package to the minimum (changed nothing with phone or internet). 2 hours later she realises how god awful the choice of TV is and rings up and reinstates us back to the package we where on 2 hours earlier.

Now back to today that 2 hours of madness apparently tied us back into a 12month verbal contract. Now Virgin want to charge us a whopping £180 cancellation charge on the account (remaining 7 months).

Now even tho we signed nothing is it worth fighting?

Basically I have 4 options now

1/ Fight them to the end

    2/ Pay Branson £180

3/ Get rid of Sky as its within the first 28 days (there's a problem with this option as we have multi room with the sky deal for the kids)

4/ lower virgins package to the minimum and keep paying for the next 7 months for a service i dont use (this works out about £180 also)

    Thanks in advance.

    Al

We'll ive never been with Virgin so dont know their rules on upgrading and downgrading but I can tell you that a verbal contract is just as enforceable as a written one.

Is it possible when the upgrade was made a discount was given as long as you stay with them for 12 months?

Nothing you can do,you had 30 days in which to cancel after upgrading the package, like most companies once you do,you're effectivly starting a new 12 month contract,as I found out last month when I accepted a new call package with BT.

  • I posted this somewhere else but haven't had a reply so thought I would make a new topic....

I just signed up to Virgin Media, due to have installation on Tuesday but I'm not sure whether to continue with it.

I'm getting a free V+ box with free installation, getting 10mb broadband with free wireless router, 165 channels & free evening & weekend calls for £47.94. I was told that £11.99 for line rental is included in the £47.94

I'm currently with Sky and have 3 Pack for TV, 10mb broadband & phone for £41.00 but I also pay £6.75 for Sky Protect which I think is for anything that goes wrong with the box.

I've looked on the Sky website and if I wanted Sky+ on top of what I'm paying, I think it will be £49 for the Sky+ box & £60 for installation without paying for HD.

Have I got a good deal?

Do Sky not charge you £10 a month for the HD pack... whereas with Virgin it is no extra cost.

Are you getting a free V+ box or a free V+ HD box as one gives you HD channels for free and the other is non- HD?

And is the Sky box you are looking for the HD one, or the non HD one as sometimes they have different prices.
Sounds like an OK deal to me. Depends what you are valuing... I found the Virgin Broadband to be excellent and always at advertised speed whereas other broadband over the phone line was quite patchy.

yes sky is £10 a month on top of your normal price for the HD pack, although one day you never know they may offer it free like virgin.

Just to clarify,You do not get a 'free' VM box, they remain the property of VM at all time & have to be returned if you leave VM,Upside of that is any repairs, replacements or upgrades are free.

I meant you normally have to pay £49 for it but the offer I got, I didn't have to pay the price....

Don't think it's HD but haven't got a HD TV so don't think I will benefit from those channels at the moment.

Think I was looking at replacing my box with the Sky+ box as I don't want to pay am extra £10 for the HD Pack.

I've been having problems with my broadband as haven't been to watch BBC iPlayer.....
