Jenny - how exciting!! I was really nervous before visiting my first shop
but it was a really good experience and in all the shops I went to
I was made to feel at ease and the ladies were all really helpful and it was exciting. Enjoy and let us all know how you get on!

Hi everyone! I'm hoping to get married in august this year!! (And I'm very very excited!!) We've researched everything and have budgeted really well but now I'm worried we might be too late to book anything! I know the reception venue is available, but the photographer I wanted isn't : ( xx
  • Hi Smookle, have you looked into many other photographers in your area? The easiest way is if there's a wedding fayre near you coming up soon as you'll see so many there. I was amazed at how many photographers where near me, showcasing their portfolios at the fayre. Arrange to meet a couple and look through their work and I'm sure you'll find another that you love. Think about what it was specifically about the first one that you liked so much and explain that to the new ones you meet up with and see if they can do the same sort of style.
    Fingers crossed for you!

Jenny - it's a good time to go as many places have started their sample sales at the end of December. The dress I really loved I got a size 10 sample reduced from £1000 to £400 :money:

(I wore some warm tights as some of the places were freeeeeezing!)

Ooh it would be amazing if I can get a sample one that's perfect as ideally I don't want to spend more than £500 on my dress. Fingers crossed!

A friend of mine offered to provide his band for free, but then we were at a party with this fantastic DJ ( not cheap i might add) complete all rounder, which we ended up booking as he would better suit the age range of the guests.

    Speaking of music....

we've got a string quartet for the ceremony at our venue. Is anybody else doing similar? what music have you picked (4 pieces we are being told) they are also staying for after ceremony drinks and photo's to keep the guests entertained. They play almost anything (with enough warning) any suggestions on songs we could request?

When I was at a friends wedding last year- they had a string quartet and they ask me to request a song when we outside having drinks afterwards- so I said anything by Take That- so I think they did Patience- which went down really well! I think if you pick pop songs- people like it, because they recognise the song and it's a version which they will probably never heard before! :)

although you might want to stick to more traditional pieces for the ceremony....

    Why?

Have the pieces that mean the most to you, not just what you think you are expected to have - there's nothing wrong with Pachelbel's Canon (in fact I absolutely adore it) but you don't have to have it just cos it's traditional.

I went to a wedding recently where they had a harpist. She generally played traditional pieces, but during the signing of the register she played the love theme from The Godfather (which was the 'theme tune' to the stag do, according to my H2B!) It was great, and got everyone chuckling which relaxed the mood a little, and just added a personal element to an otherwise very traditional and formal ceremony.

oh yeah totally agree with you- I'm not a traditionalist-just some people might be- my friend walked down the aisle to a string quartet playing Cafe Del Mar- now that was amazing!
