This is just a quickie for me this morning
as I'm off out in a mo.
Welcome Geordielass.
I'ts raining here again today which is good but it will be a bit of a nuisance going to the different places loading up the gear. Mighten be as bad over on the mainland but it's chucking down here. I made a chicken dish for tonight's tea last night so I can just reheat with some rice tonight.
Better go as DH has announced he's ready. I'm still in my PJ's.(((((hugs))))) to those feeling poorly and I hope the night owls get some decent sleep. Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -
Churchmouse wrote:Snowy, I got a miele vacuum today, my panasonic was dying fast. I could have sucked up more than it!!! I got the Cat and dog one and we don't have either!!! But I wanted the turbo brushes, is that what you got? I rushed to John Lewis this afternoon to get it, paid £179.00, a lot of money but I'm well impressed with it's suction and pick-up powers so far!! Also it's got a really good which? writeup and miele have fantastic reliability records.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: at Churchmouse! Great minds think alike Churchmouse....you may not have a cat and you may not have a dog...but I do not have any carpet!! We got the exact same one by the sounds of things - I wanted the turbo brushes too as I will be getting carpet in due course. Enjoy your spritzer, I am sure you are very very thirsty after all that vacuuming you have been doing. I too am impressed - I like the tools and that it's got a really long lead, and that you can stand it on its bum when you do the stairs. I also like that it's got a big bag, and that the wheels don't fall off, and that it picks up cat hair from the sofas. Can you believe it doesn't scare the cats either!! My last one used to make them run with fright into the next room, whereas this one had them watching with interest.
Shez...deliveries to N.Ireland are a bit hit and miss. Some companies deliver here, some don't. Of those that do sometimes they add a surcharge - there is a thread on the NI board discussing it. Someone was asked for over £20 extra to deliver here compared to a delivery in Scotland, England or Wales!! Occasionally they use Royal Mail, which of course is the exact same price, and some of them still attempt to make a surcharge on that. (Don't understand the difference between north and south...tut tut tut!!) They just end up losing our business. Interestingly some of the companies which have actual shops here charge extra for delivery via internet ordering. You'd think they'd order it via the local shop so that it doesn't have to cross the water. And interestingly enough John Lewis has no shops in the island of Ireland at all...yet they offer free delivery on goods over £100!! What a balls up ordering stuff from England can be!
I haven't made the Christmas cake...:o....realised I had no brandy in the house, even though I went shopping twice for the ingredients with a diligently written list. This is now a project for next weekend. Ooo brandy ooo, [STRIKE]brandy spritzers[/STRIKE] medicinal hot toddies...will get a big bottle in case it's a hard winter!
lynsayjane...congratulations on your last day in your current job. I know you weren't happy there at all. And even better than you get to use your gym for free in your next job. That is a fantastic perk, I'm really jealous!
joannasmum, sorry to hear about your BM, but well done on making bread by hand. Someone mentioned earlier that they saw bread makers for sale at a car boot for only a fiver... Or you might get one off freecycle. I know I'm going to be asking for one.
Cha97michelle...I think I'd be taking those B&Q cushions back - they have a price promise of some sort don't they? If they don't cough up the difference then I'd let them keep them and get replacements at Dunelm and use the £££ saved to go towards curtains.
TickleMouse - glad your gerbil surrendered her liberty and went home.
Off to bed soon, have a good sleep everyone.

Yes, it's very quiet, well compared with my last one it is!!! I'm sure my last cat, dear old Millie, would have just watched this one with interest!!
We had to stop having pets because DS2 tested positive for allergies to all pets and even human hair!! As I said, I wasn't shaving my head, even for him!! When dear Millie died we didn't get another cat. Now DS2 has left home but I still haven't got another pet. Decided we don't want the tie at the moment. Maybe in a few years. Trouble is I'm a real cat person and DH is more a doggie person. So far I've always won out!:rolleyes:You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 -
Ooo allergies...I've heard of adults suddenly developing allergies to animals, and dread to think if it happened to me. Churchmouse, you could compromise with your DH and have a puppy and a kitten so that you are both happy...two would be no more trouble than just one. There are very nice catteries and kennels all over the place too... Sorry, I am being a temptress! I can't imagine being without an animal in my life, and you sound like you still have a Millie shaped gap in your heart.
Good night... I really am going to bed now...night night!

I've been sat here for nearly an hour and still no sign of the daily thread!!!
I've never started the daily thread before - if ever I've been early enough I've just sat and waited until someone else did. No doubt I'll cross post mind
Today I'm on a mission to get the house tidiedWhile it would be nice to wait until the boys are back in school I've signed up for a college course and am likely to be back the same day as them. It's nice to start as you mean to go on so it would be nice if we can be a little organised at least!
I've also got to transform the pastry I made the other day into quiches. The boys really enjoyed the last two. I'd also like to make some welsh cakes so we've snacks available if the munchies should strike.
There's half a dozen or so boxes sat in the living room waiting to go back in the attic(following the bootsale), but they do need sorting first.
The weather is forecast to be drier this evening so hopefully I'll get the chance to do some more on the garden fence. It's all cut to size now except the posts that are already up - I've got to take about3 foot off each
. Then it's giving them two coats of paint
(and hoping they come up half decent) the lattice panels another coat, and finally putting them up. Once that fence is sorted I've got to move to the one at the side of the house which currently consists of two panels propped against the two old posts and supported (until a gust of wind)by the cushion box!!!
Again that's going to need painting, then it's converting the panel into a gate inc working out how to erect a gate post on one of the most awkward surfaces (I think I've sussed a solution
) As you can see, there's no way I can get this lot done in a day - especially as it's likely to be peppered with 'Maa- aam ...can I have/he did this/I'm bored etc', lol
Right, time to get on....I hope everyone is well and has a lovely day. thinking of you today Smashing blouse, and hope it goes as smoothly as possible for you.
Snowy and Churchmouse - I hope you have lots more fun with your new toy.
Off to micro my tea now

Morning Kaz, thought I'd get myself up at a reasonable hour, but fully expecting this thread to be about two pages long by now. Wow! You sound as if you have a busy day ahead. I hope you manage to get everything done that you've planned. You sound like superwoman this morning.
I'm meeting my sister, who has managed to get my mum and daughter (who is staying with Mum at the mo.) to babysit the twins and 8 Y.O. We plan on me showing her all my bargain hunting haunts. I think she quite likes my 1940s living room which has been put together from a selection of antiques and junk finds. She doesn't want to imitate the 1940s, just can't believe you can do up a room so cheaply.
I saw your post yesterday about the bootsale, my room here looks as if I've just done one, but I haven't. Your Superwoman plans have inspired me to go through all the differently boxed things and take them to their destinations today.
Anyway, best wishes for a busy day ahead, hope the Kazolets don't bug you too much
