Good morning everyone... It's clothes shopping day for us today... My husband got all excited about the free speaking Homer Simpson bottle opener from Richer and Sound so I promised to stop by and pick one up for him :-) So predictable...
I am struggling with the washing. Have two weeks of holiday laundry and bed sheets to cope with and no tumble dryer or outside space. Laundry dries so slowly in our flat... It's gonna take ages to get back on track I think...

Hope everyone is having a good day!

    Hello everyone!

Congratulations to Ivyleaf on the arrival of the new baby. Aww I bet you're really happy Ivyleaf.

Ajax - it might be worth your while to collect some 20p pieces together and trot off to the laundrette and dry your things there. I used to do that in a previous residence when it all got a bit too much.

PP - gosh 92%!!! You must have put in a hell of a lot of effort to get such a good mark at degree level. Well done you! I think with the cleaner I'd be inclined to just call her up and tell her not to come back and mention the missing stuff rather than ask about it. You know fine well it was her or her daughters who helped themselves. It sounds like she has her own ideas about how your house should be done, and isn't terribly interested in what you've got to say. In my book that can all be shortened to "bye bye".

My flylady day yesterday was a bit slow and didn't rate very high on achievement. I did clear some space on my desk - I surrounded myself with a recycling bag, a bin, a shoebox for personal letters/cards, the shredder and a bag for stuff needing relocation in the house. It worked fine until I contracted "numb bum" :rotfl:

Can anyone advise...yesterday I obtained a new bottle of propane gas, but the attachment coming out of my wall won't clip on. Am I being dumb or something? Or do the tops of the bottles vary? I am a bit embarrassed about going back to complain, not to mention the stupid thing weighs half a ton and I don't want to carry it... Can anybody help?

Pink - I hope little Tilly is getting over her flu.

That's all for now folks, see you later!

Just about to go and visit elderly relatives who we have not been able to see in months as we were seeing dad at hospice.

Visited an uncle in another hospice in Bolton yesterday and glad we went - feel awkward that when they asked about my dad I just said that he was very weak - they could do without being told he had died on Monday - so do not really feel it was a lie.

Tomorrow is dad's funeral and then on Tuesdat a intend to race around like a scalded ferret - tidying house and "uncluttering!!!

    Pennypincher

Well done - that is a fantastic mark.

DH twitching so I need to go.

    Big hugs.

  • Well good morning again everyone!

Got rudely awakened  BY A&C this morning about 9am. C wanted out of her cage to get out and do the loo, A wanted through the gate to get upstairs into the bed (not a chance!). So here I have been sitting since then checking out my ebay and MSE!

OH has just managed to drag himself out of bed - I can hear him stumbling about. No doubt he will still be feeling sorry for himself and his man flu!:D

(((hugs))) to all those that need them today. Hope you are all well.:p

Congratulations Ivyleaf on your new grandchild.

Well done Penny pincher on your last assignment.:T I'm doing OU as well and I love it when it gets near the end of the course and there is only one more to do. Hate the exams though - How do you deal with the exam will they allow you to take it at home and give you extra time?
From what i have heard from other students the OU is quite good with providing practical help for those with a disability/illness.
Good luck with your exam and next course.i have two starting in october and just doing a couple of short courses alongside my current one. Trying to get my degree in just over three years.
    What subjects are you taking?

Kaz - glad you slept better last night, it will help you focus on things easier.

Today i will be going blackberry picking if the rain holds off, it is looking a bit dodgy here.
Not making sunday lunch as OH is working, have got some pea and ham soup going in slowcooker that will do with some HM bread.

  • Hi All,
I'll try and keep it brief as I have lost count of the times just lately that I have typed a reply and the sites logged me out and lost it all!
Had a long lie in today, just having my brekkie of a couple of (hm) cheese scones, my fave.
Plans for today are to do a fairly small basket of ironing, and a couple of loads of washing, its looking nice and sunny here at the moment, so it may make it outside, but Im not using the tumble drier at the moment (due to large electricity bill we received recently!) so if it starts to rain it will all go on airers.
I bought some new nets for the whole house, I have funny sized windowd so none of them fitted quite right, have spent the last week hemming the sides and turning them up. Finally put away the sewing machine, cleaned the windows and hung them up yesterday and I cant believe the difference. They are much lighter for a start, the old ones were very lacy and also have made me realize how discoloured the old ones were. Still I did get eight and a half years out of them so thats not too bad.
Now thats out of the way Ive got two pairs of my trousers to turn up, a pair of DD2's and a couple more name tapes to sew in. Then Ive got a fluffy hat for DD2 to finish knitting and both DD's want some leg warmers. I have a dustbin liner full of wool that I inherited all in shades of pink, white, purple and lilac so Im sure they can both choose a colour they like.
We are on holiday the week after next down in Lewes, East Sussex, so Ill bring my knitting bag with me.
Both DD's are excited because tomorrow we have tickets to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Birmingham Hippodrome, Ive heard its really good and the car is great.
Have a great day everyone, Im going to press "post quick reply" and keep my fingers crossed!

    Edited to say:
I'm sorry to hear of your loss Elona and will be thinking of you tomorrow.
PP, Congrats on your 92%, thats great and sorry to hear about your sisters troubles. I think your cleaners got a cheek bringing her daughters if you have asked her not to, you are her employer after all!
Ivyleaf, big congratulations on your new grandson. So many new babies around at the moment and they all seem to be boys.
  • Had me bath and feel a little better. Have called sister to make sure she's ok and she was in a state....men!!

Yes, the OU are allowing me to sit my exam at home and have extra time for breaks etc. Hopefully doing a Forensic Pschology degree, but so far have done Social Sciences, Health & Social Care and a couple of other courses. The OU have been fantastic with my disabilities and tutor is fab! They have provided loads of extra help they thought might benefit me. Couple of the courses I did before I was ill, so thought whilst Im at home doing nothing, may as well do something....Use It Or Loose It!!:rotfl:

Have tried calling the cleaner but no answer. Will keep trying until I do-its going to be such a pain finding a new one, but may ask SIL to help for the time being as she could do with the money.

    Hugs to all.

    Good morning everyone,

Congratulations Ivyleaf on the new grandson! bet he's really cute :j

Penny-Pincher - you have done a lot of courses! Don't know how you do it! I know what you mean about 'use it or lose it' though - I came across some of my old postgrad work the other day, and was reading through it in amazement thinking 'did I ever actually know this stuff?' as half of it has completely blanked out of my head :rotfl: Its a shame about your cleaner though, and I think you're right when you say you need to get another one.

Didn't get any digging done yesterday as the ground was too wet, so had hopes of today, but not sure if that going to happen after all as the sky is looking decidedly grey. We'll have to see what happens. I got the lasagne made, which smelt gorgeous so was sitting at 9pm last night waiting for it to cool thinking 'I could really go for some lasagne right now'! However, I was good, so it's in the fridge waiting for teatime.

Todays jobs - got to get the washing machine going, as should be able to get a couple of loads done between the clothes airer and the tumble drier  Also need to get to the shops to pick up a few things for lunches this week, and need to get a present for nephew no.2 birthday. Other than that it'll just be some cleaning, and have still haven't finished my card as couldn't get into the mood to finish it yesterday so will have a go this evening I think.

Hugs to all that've posted already, and to those yet to post! Have a good day :D
