  • Morning all,

As I haven't posted for a while, my condolences to Elona. My dad died 2 years ago aged just 50 & it was a horrible shock. I'm glad your dad had some time in the hospice & hope you can find some comfort that he dies peacefully. X

Both my sister & I were smacked as children when naughty, but we were told why/had warnings to stop doing whatever we were doing beforehand. More often than not however, we were just sent to our rooms until we were ready to apologise.

Like Bargain Rzl, I am in the middle of buying a house. We are nervously awaiting mortgage offer now that the survey, searches etc have all been done. I am so excited about having our first little house (& garden!). I have fingers crossed for your survey Rzl.

We cooked a huge lasagne last night (boyf does the mince, I make the sauce), which I have the remains of for dinner today, yum.

I am off to yoga/pilates tonight. I didn't go last week so expect it will feel a little tough tonight. I walked into the bedstead in the dark on Tuesday night & have a MASSIVE bruise on my thigh, so that's going to hurt too! I'm soooo clumsy.

    Have a good day all.

Decided to pop in to the OS thread today as I'm feeling v. broke and grumpy. You'll have to excuse the long whinge! Have no-one else to whinge at right now.

Have been job hunting for a while but with little success. I've had a few interviews but never quite got the job. So, I spoke to a friend of a friend who's a recruitment consultant a couple of weeks ago to see whether I'm doing anything 'wrong'.

Apparently there's nothing wrong with my CV or the way I approach interviews. In fact, I'm 'an impressive candidate'. The one bit of advice/insight she gave me was about 'personal image'. I always dress extremely smartly for interviews - posh suit from Hobbs, shiny shoes, neat haircut, minimal jewellery etc. But apparently that's not enough these days. Rightly or wrongly, many employers in my field go on looks rather than presentation. If they see a candidate who's a bit overweight, they assume that the candidate must be lazy and not willing to make an effort to improve himself/herself. Likewise, teeth are supposed to be whiter-than-white and perfectly straight - 'because everyone can afford teeth whitening these days' - and I should probably have a few highlights 'because everyone highlights their hair once they're over 25' Oh, and the fact that I suffer from sebhorreic dermatitis doesn't help either. Yes, I've tried all sorts of pharmaceutical preparations to try to clear it up but employers are likely to assume that it's ordinary dandruff and I can't be bothered to buy Head & Shoulders

Honestly, this makes me mad. I'm an intelligent, well-qualified and highly skilled employee. I don't turn up to interviews in old, dirty clothes and am always well prepared. Why on earth should it matter that I have a few extra pounds on the hips, haven't highlighted my hair and have a medically recognised skin condition? Surely I should be judged on my skills, experience and the fact that I've made a real effort to look smart for the interview?

But, if I want a new job, I guess I've got to play the game. Over the past couple of weeks I've been watching my weight, and I saw a trichologist yesterday. Guess how much I had to spend on the specialist medication I need to treat up my condition? £130!!! I'm not going to get my teeth fixed just yet but am seriously thinking about having a few highlights put in. Guess that'll cost me another £40-£50. Still, if I'm spending all this money I won't be able to afford to eat, which might help shift a few more pounds.....!

Has anyone else had similar experiences or is it just me?

Morning all .....((((((((HUGS))))))))))) to those who need them.............still feeling a bit ropey this morning have not taken the 'fat' medication since Tuesday night and have not had any gut pain today, so maybe it is that, will see. I must look off because OH asked me yesterday if I was feeling ok. I had fallen asleep on the settee after lunch and let the mince for supper dry, thankfully it wasn't burnt, but the pan took a bit of cleaning!!!!!

OH bowling this aft but not a match had a competition to play so he will be in for supper, not made up my mind what to have but it will have to be something with veg OH bought 1 1/2lbs of beans and 20lbs of spuds home from the allootment yesterday along with the rest of the beetroot......the spuds are in sacks in the garage, will keep us going for quite a while, thre are some real biggies in there as well........

I have the ironing to do which I am going to tackle in a mo.... not a lot, but those shirts, when my 4 chidlren were at school and OH wore a clean shirt every day I used to iron 30 shirts a week..... no wonder I hate ironing the things!!!!!!! would never start up a business ironing thats for sure.........

Right I am off to make a start....................

Had a mad rush round with hoover and microfibre cloth and now waiting for the minister.

Have a fruit loaf baking so fingers crossed it tastes all right. Set up tray with pretty china, home made tray cloth appliqued by moi!

LOL - just call me Hyacinth!;)

Longing to read about Hesters job - can I be a bimbette? Joking - DH would not be impressed by the idea.

  • morning

its a good one to now. Got up with DH at 7:15, have sat and pottered on the computer. Got martins email and found that the woolies sale was on, so got some xmas stocking fillers for DH and my nephews and little pud, and also some last baby bits that i keep forgetting while i am in the shop. Also, its the nectar/adams vouchers double points, so me and DH have got enough to get £100 worth of vouchers, which again, will go towards xmas. (we've never cashed them in all the years we have collected them.)

Then, logged on to pigsback to do my clicking, and i won a quiz  which means i am almost at another voucher. of which i have been getting the boots ones to go towards nappies and baby wipes. So all in all, very MSE, which is magic compared to the rest of the month to now. I'm assuming my luck may be changing.

Also no back pain yesterday, so i feel great.

Kiwi - hope your LO is now feeling better, and you get sorted with DH.

Hester - had a good giggle at your job. Well done that you can do it. I would be really tongue tied and not know what to say. :D

kyle/twink - hope its good news for the LO. Diabetes is hard for kids isn't it.

BRZL - fingers crossed for the flat valuation. I'm sending positive vibes.

snowy - good luck with FL today, and thoughts and prayers for the little dog. That is my worst nightmare with my boys.

Was given another 2 bags of baby stuff from my sister yesterday. In one, was 8 baby hooded towels. Pud will have more towels than us. I said to my sister, take some back to save if she has another baby, and she said she would want to buy all new again as they are crinkled at the edges from being in the TD. How come, me on the largest income because i work FT, have the best ideas about MS?? Is it because i am conscious that my income will be reduced, so i want to make the most of what i do have? I really don't know.

Going to go and try to be a bit more productive today. Just got some chilli out of the freezer for tea (always tastier reheated), and want to clean the bathroom suite, and get through some loads in the WM. HAd been doing the FL one load a day, but that has gone out the window since the hols and i need to get back on track.

    See you later girlies.

    Michelle, xx

    Morning gas-bags :D

Tried to read as much as I could as fast as I could or I'll be in danger of spending all morning on here :) ((hugs)) all round - it's OK, I'm sending kiwi's to her personally as I'm msn'ing her as I type this :D

Spent 8 hours yesterday cleaning and gardening at mum's so I'm shattered. Her grass took me 3 hours to cut properly!! It's been fed lately so even though it hadn't been cut for 10 days, some was 8 inches long  Not easy to crop with a cylinder ower !! By the time I got home was too late and wet to cut my own grass.

Anyway, had no time for OS her yesterday - my friend from next door came round and we had a takeaway, a bottle of wine and a good chinwag. Was fab :D So, today I'll have to get on. Friend will be borrowing my WM this morning then I'll do the rest of mine later. HAVE to get on with the packing for the hols - we're off on saturday and so far I have 3 beach towels and some of the boys clothes on the spare bed!

Need to make a bol sauce later cos Mr TM is back about 6ish and what's left over is freezable if not eaten before we go away. Have also loads of chinese left in the fridge too. Want to clean the house at least somewhat, and will get Mr TM to clean the fishtanks too. Need to find someone to care for the gerbils - next door are away same week and other neighbours all have cats. Maybe I'll be driving them to my sister's on Friday :D

Right, must get on, or we'll be holidaying in what we're wearing.

    Love to all

    TM xxx

ps Hester - LOVe the new job, although I couldn't do it - I'd laugh too much. Do these men think that all women on the end of the phone look like those 18 yo nymphettes in frilly skimpies, they use to advertise these lines? LOL (not that I'm sugggesting you aren't a truly gorgeous and sexy lady, you understand)

    Morning everyone

KiwiChick...I think that perhaps your OH doesn't quite understand the effect that lashing out in anger/frustration can have on a child. I had a pretty rough time as a kid too - the anger and resentment still lingers even now. Even as a very young child I knew the difference between right and wrong and therefore knew when a punishment was justified and by the sounds of it your child understands that point too. To be hit for doing nothing wrong is sure to foster problems for later. DH needs a bit of training and enlightenment on the subject I suspect.

What luxury, I am off w*** today. Earlier in the week I was overcome with exhaustion, spent most of my free time asleep. I asked for a day off, and the best they could offer was today, so I have to go in again tomorrow. However I've got lots of plans for today - go to charity shops both to leave donations and to have a good browse, go buy curtain poles and rails, go to the dump with piles of bottles and paper etc, visit the library, have lunch in a nice cafe in town, get a bit of cleaning up done in the house. I've had breakfast, but haven't had my shower yet, but that will be sorted in a minute or two.

Hester...I knew someone who used to be a chat operative, exactly as you're doing. She used to life dumbells during the calls - she had lovely toned shoulders and arms! Good for you for finding a way to generate some dosh, it's money honestly earned.

Nabowla - I've been a recruitment officer in private companies and the NHS in the past. I have no idea what field your work is in, but appearance isn't always the be all and end all - capability has a lot to do with selecting a candidate too, and capability should always - IMHO - override any flaws in a candidate's dress etc as these can be sorted out later. Have you done any fact-finding on how to go improve your interview technique. When I found myself unemployed I got hold of a book about job hunting, cv prep, how to prepare, how to come up with intelligent questions etc etc. Yes, ironic that as a recruitment officer I had to do that for myself, but I found that I picked up some tips which gave me the edge - ie I was successful shortly after using the info I had gleaned. It'd be a shame for you to spend a load of time, money and effort adjusting your appearance when perhaps there are other areas that you could work on and which may make more of a difference.

Kyle - fingers crossed that your son's bloods are normal.

    Have a lovely day everyone
