This is my MIL's recipe, she was a Scot and it came down through the family.
I have made it and its the nearest to bought tablet I have tasted.....
1 1/2lbs granulates sugar.
3 ozs butter
2 small tins of carnation evap milk.
Bring the milk, sugar and butter slowly to the boil, stirring occasionally.boil for 25 - 30 min.
Take off the heat and beat until thick. Pour into a greased tin. leave to cool for 1/2 an hour, cut into squares in the tin and leave until cold. Then break it up, and if there is any left wrap in greaseproof paper and store in a tin.Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -

I thought I might attempt to make some bits and bobs for family at christmas. So have made pastry for mince pies (in freezer), might make truffles but was wondering how to make Fudge/tablet type sweets. I have trawled the forums looking (there might be something there) but as Im sneaking on here during work time!! cant look any longer.
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Elaine, try this one for tablet
150ml milk;
175g unsalted butter;
800 g caster sugar;
225g condensed milk
Put sugar, milk condensed milk and butter a heavy saucepan and melt over a medium heat. Stir all the time to prevent burning, and bring to the boil. make sure you have used a large enough pan as the mix can double in size. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the mixture turns light amber in colour. When it gets to the softball stage take off the heat,and beat until the mixture lightens a little in colour and begins to thicken and go grainy. Dont allow it to become too thick or it will not pour well.
Pour into a chilled greased baking tray and allow to set. When it has set a bit you can mark it into squares to make it easier to divide up when fully set0 -
