Ok, I know I shouldn't say this but...Sainsbury's do an *amazing* fudge - Taste the Difference Maple Fudge - it's very much like tablet in texture and tastes absoutely gorgeous. I can't make tablet (believe me, I've tried!), so this is a good compromise occasionally.
We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment

being a bit of a fudge expert (due to consuming copius amounts!) I have to say I agree with you - the Sainsburys Maple Fudge is just gorgeous. New Forest Fudge is the best though! (both are tablet fudge!..none of this soft stuff!)
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

What is TABLET may I ask?
It's a Scottish sweetie. It's somewhere between fudge and Kendal mint cake (without the mint) It comes in a 'tablet' or block, broken up and it crumbles in your mouth then melts into a sugary, gloopy delicious taste explosion. It has a similar taste to vanilla fudge but a firmer, crumbly texture.

Still loved, still missed and very dear

an important bit of making tablet is to make sure the sugar is thoroughly dissolved before boiling, as it wont dissolve after that

    very good point twink :)

it can take a while to get it all dissolved at first, but it's worth the effort for the difference it makes to the texture of the finished tablet

(otherwise it can turn out all coarse & grainy)

Hmm. I like it when you get tiny crystals of sugar in it and a kind of rough texture. Mmmmmm!
