Overpriced postage

How long are we going to flog her for?
I don't think we are flogging her for it. There are many newbies here that are looking for advice on how to deal with situations like this. I think most of us are trying to create a debate on how best to deal with these situations.0 -
Firstly I would point out that the OP is an experienced ebay user and has already said she understands her responsibility in this and that she accepts she should not have bid without a response to the p and p question. For that I applaud the OP and respect her decision to vent on here, I have done things in the past that with hindsight were foolish and sometimes it is good to vent about it rather than sit and brood.Road_Hog wrote:And there in lies the answer, which is why I asked for the item number. My view is, if the postage is very high and it is listed then don't bid on it and don't complain, or take into account the whole cost and reflect that in your bid.
This seller has deliberately witheld the postage and the actual cost does not bear a fair resemblance to what may have been expected to be paid. I would tell the seller you do not wish to purchase as they did not reply to your email and that the postage is not resonable.
I believe you are looking at this the wrong way. As the seller did not respond to the p and p question no promise of reasonable costs were therefore made. The buyer bought basically with the proviso she would pay whatever was asked. Trying to prove that £15 was unreasonable in this case might work, but I would think it extremely unlikely and whatever happens the OP is likely to get a neg. If post and packing is not shown on the auction then I agree with Hintza in that there may be a very good reason why that is so.
This thread is very interesting as it shows the different views we all have about what a seller means when they do not respond to a simple question about p and p. However, I consider that the OP has the right take on this, in that by not waiting for a response from the seller she has allowed herself to be caught on the P and P.

My take on the situation - inexperienced seller, foolishly listed at 99p. Didn't attract many bids because of his low feedback. Didn't list postage probably because of his inexperience - didn't realise it puts people off.
After the sale he decided to try to claw back some profit by bumping up the postage.
I'd be inclined to call this guy's bluff - he's clearly clueless. Have you tried threatening to report him for fee avoidance? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

I agree with what you have said but there is aquestion. Is this a new seller or a new name for an old seller trying again? You can never be sure.
I have thought of telling him about it possibly being reported but not wanting to rush into anything drastic. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

He's got 'newbie' written all over him.. in my opinion.
- No postage costs shown
- Skimpy item descriptions
- No terms and conditions or returns policy
- Sure, he's got a flashy logo, but only two items in his shop!
- If he knew what he was doing, he'd have got more feedback before listing. My TV is broken!

I have just received a reply from the seller.
In my last email I did mention about reporting fee avoidance (though I didn't like doing it) and he has replied saying I could pay £3 for postage plus £1 for VAT.
Thats a huge drop. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Nice work
I had a feeling he'd cave
Although if you're being pedantic he's actually committing a crime by adding VAT!

I've won a few of these items before, but the seller has already stated the cost of postage before the auction started. I was perfectly happy with this as it was still the cheapest available To not state then slap a silly amount is well out of order and I would report them to eBay if the overall price is a rip offWycombe Till I Die0

I totaly agree with you, however I just want this to end now.
Is it just me or is there a lot more of this on ebay these days.
Didn't have as many these problems when I started on ebay. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

I'd ask for a new invoice with the new p+p charge on also. I have a feeling that if you now pay £4.99 total (as per new p+p) then he might be able to open a dispute for NPB.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
