                    Oh my goodness.
Stupid stupid me ended up bidding on something for fear of losing it.
Contacted seller beforehand to get an idea of postage with no reply.
I have now won the auction for a ram memory card (lighter than normal letter posting price).
Now they want me to pay £15.00 for postage.
What a con.
I will obviously have to pay for it to keep up my excelent reputation but I hate this sort of thing.
I am just having a vent on here

right...if they stated postage costs and u chose not to read them its your fault
If they didn't display them and u choose to take the risk its also ur fault
Find out all info before buying
This is like the gazillinth thread about high postage
Just out of interest-what was item, maybe its not as ridiculous as you think

Personally I would not buy anything without knowing the costs
Out of interest is the seller based in the UK if so then you may be able to get out of the auction by opening a dispute via ebay as it looks like the seller is avoiding ebay fees by charging high postage and it's against ebay rules for "fee avoidance".
You might get nowhere with ebay as the price was not stated but it may be worth a try but it's a lesson learnt never commit to buy anything without knowing the final costs0 -

I agree.
I am only venting.
I accept that it is my own stupid fault as I said in my origional post and yes you are probably fed up reading about this subject.
I posted as my head was sore from banging it of my desk in frustration with myself.
I will pay up as I am an excellent buyer and seller. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Surely the seller's only possible excuse for this is that they're posting from abroad? If they're in the UK this is really bad of them, and another case of being held to ransom for your 100% feedback

No the item is in England. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Seems very unfair then, especially as they didn't reply to your e-mail sent before the auction ended. I'm no eBay expert but is there no one you can appeal to as the charge is obviously way too high for such a small item, and wasn't stated or agreed to beforehand?
EDIT: Sorry, missed the fact that slowen has already suggested this above. Must be worth a try?.0 -
When I was looking for memory stick, there were quite a few of these, low cost items but high price postage lots for sale. I decided to get a decent priced item with average postage. But I remember having a bit of paper to do the adding up to see which the best deal was! You didnt gain by having the low cost item so based on the fact if it got lost I would lose out, I chose carefully.
Personally I would have avoided a seller who doesnt reply, no matter what my question and how much I wanted the item!!!
But like you I have done this is in the past and just had to grit my teeth and make sure I never make the same mistake again!0 -
Another problem with items that have high postage is that if it goes missing in the post Royal Mail wont pay the postage costs so if the item was £1 and the Postage £15 then you would be only eligable for £1 as that is the "stated" value of the item0

Yes I would have done the totting up thing but it was the only one of this kind I could find.
Stupid stupid me and off to paypal I go to pay as I know I don't have a leg to stand on.
I might make him wait a little for the payment to come through though. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

However in that case it is the seller that loses not the buyer as paypal will of course refund the full amount, including p and p to the buyer where the seller cannot prove delivery. I often wonder if sellers that operate the high p and p policy realise they could lose out overall?
