Ok I just looked at your figures quickly and if you stayed where you are with your average pay and bonus you will earn before tax £10660 (including the bonus) and the new job will be £9376 before tax. This includes the car park costs with your current job and presuming that you may not have a job after the end of December if you stay where you are. Though in reality you will probably have another job, which would provide you with at least £1000-£1500 a month (so £3000-£4500 on top of £10660).

There is £1284 difference between the two but you would be working less hours.

  • thanks for that flee....:)

LB - My gut instinct is that my own company have found out that I have been offered another job. :o

My boss has told me several times over that my job at HO was redundant and as I am currently funded for the secondment then I naturally assumed that as I didn't have a job at HO that I would be made redundant from the secondment afterall that is what she had told me not once but several times. Plus telling me on Monday that I could take time off to look for other jobs or attend interviews if needed reinforced this message.

Now I can only assume that she has changed her mind due to the fact that I emailed her but copied in my union rep, which both have axes to grind against each other and are fully aware of each other.

My boss answered my email by asking me to ring her. Of course I did and it was all relayed over the telephone pretty cute as no paper trail to take any further if needed.

I have discussed it with OH last night and also a couple of very close work colleagues and all have said that I should stay where I am in what is technically a permanent job, and if the push came to shove then I would receive my redundancy pay out. Which would help me to pay off my car finance, which in turn would free up £150 per month for me to be able to pay towards reducing my debts.:T

The new job was initially advertised as 8 months maternity cover, which when I accepted the offer it was, but have been told since that it should have read 7 months, but as they have moved the start dates twice its now going to be 6.5 months :(

At least I have plenty of other positive things in my life at the moment and are not going to dwell on it too much one biggy my divorce will soon be finalised...:T roll on 26th August !!! :j

  • thats what I have to keep saying to myself onwards and upwards although sometimes I think its a bit of squiffy one and kinda leans one way or another at times. On the whole though I look back at what life was like and what it is now and my whole life has changed, I now have a life and I have a future.:)

Last month wanted to set up a standing order for OH to pay the mortgage instead of transferring it to mine for me then to send it to them. Now would think that this was an easy task....well they sent out the forms as they said that it would be better to set up a DD, completed them and sent them back and they sent me a letter saying that the money has to come out of an account with my name on, now as we don't have a joint account (this will not change for the foreseeable future) so this month he has had to transfer this into my account and I have had to ring up and make a card payment. They have asked if this was to be a regular occurence so I explained everything to 'Scott' and he said that we could set it up as a standing order directly from his account and even changed the payment date to allow for weekends etc. :)

Tonight is my mum's 65th birthday. My dad has arranged for all of us to meet at a local restaurant and for us all to be waiting for my mum to arrive (am sure that she will recognise all of our cars in the car park!!) My DS has come home last night, saw him briefly as he ater his dinner, was showered and out before too long as he had arranged a catch up with his friends (partying this weekend to celebrate his 18th last week), then today my DD is arriving with her new B/f and then my DS g/f is driving up tonight too. So tonight is going to be a bit hectic to say the least .

I made my mum a giant cupcake for her birthday and bought her a bouquet of flowers too. For my DS I had also made a giant cupcake which he thought that I had bought him a cake, until OH told him that I had made it for him :):)......they both loved them. Would love to set up my own business doing them but there are loads of cupcake places around and about :(

Paid off another £50 off my mortgage arrears so they are now £2138.72 will need to update my signatures.

Oooh the cakes sound lovely :). You could always put word about friends/colleagues that you can make cakes to order and see where it leads to...
Hope you have a great weekend.
  • Hiya folks

the birthday surprise went really well and my mum was over the moon she thought that we had all forgotten, she was chuffed to bits with the new laptop that my dad gave her, although the meal was a bit of a let down and the service terrible but all in all every seemed to enjoy it. :)

Over the weekend we went for a lovely long ride on the bike, went to Glossop and then down into Derbyshire and Matlock fantastic scenery...not something that I usually get to notice as I am the one usually driving!!

All weekend have been stressing over what boss said last week, took the day off on Monday as my IBS was playing up and generally felt gak :( so yesterday I went into the office in tears and basically I told her that I felt like I didn't fit in anymore at HO as I didn't have a job to come back to or at the secondment as I felt that managers are avoiding me as they don't know what to say to me anymore but will ask a work colleague if I am ok. Its all down to funding issues as to why I can't stay....I have accepted that the secondment is coming to an end and all of that, its just the not knowing when/if I am going....and when etc..

Boss then laid it on the line said well we can have this time as a consultation period as we have been discussing redundancy for some weeks, and you can take £XXXX redundancy payment and leave at the end of August if that is what you want, or can fulfill secondment until end of September and then come back into HO and be a debt collector....with a paycut of £2500 plus then will have to £1k a year to pay for parking. Said needed to discuss it with OH last night.

This morning I have emailed her saying that I have decided to take my redundancy that although I would put 110% into the role of debt collector I would not be happy as my role is something totally different and that was the line of work which I wanted to continue in. This means that I can now take the new job :j and still have my redundancy payout with a week off inbetween.:)

Whilst I know my Union would go  ballistic for accepting this now, it works for me. I was told that if I took the other role within the same company that I would not be entitled to redundancy as I would have taken alternative employment . I asked Boss to confirm as to whether this job would only be temporary but she said that she couldn't really say.

Plus she reminded me 'that the past few years haven't been very pleasant for me, what with my marriage breaking down and then it having the detrimental effect on my health etc' so 'maybe it was best for me to consider a clean break and look for alternative employment'. Then I said that I wanted to discuss the role with another colleague who has recently transferred over to the debt collection team we were discussing the job in a separate office when Boss comes in with another job for me to apply for at a different organisation!!

At the moment I feel quite relieved, still a little bit stressed but on the whole at least I now know what is happening and when. I am currently trying to write out to everyone advising that their caseloads are to be closed shortly and will then have to spend several days shredding stuff as there is no one else to take over my role :(

But I guess as one door shuts another opens, my divorce will be through at the end of August, I will leave my old work place and start a new job all in the space of a couple of weeks, feel like my life is moving in the right direction.
    :)
